Jeanne Clarke Awards Handed Out

Prince George, B.C. – The recipients of the 2013 Jeanne Clarke Memorial Local History Award have been honoured.

 

At Sunday night’s 28th annual awards reception at the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library, this year’s winners were announced as Marilyn Wheeler and members of the Vanderhoof Good Neighbours Committee. Wheeler was the recipient of the Service Award for her outstanding service in the field of local history. She has many achievements and accomplishments which include writing the acclaimed Robson Valley Story, a narrative on the settlement and life of the Robson Valley. She is also a founding member and chair of the Valley Museum and Archives Society, a member of the board of the McBride and District Public Library and the Robson Valley Arts and Culture Council. Marilyn Wheeler is also a marriage commissioner and sheep farmer.

 

The Vanderhoof Good Neighbours Committee won the Publication Award for two works published in 2011 that chronicle the lives and histories of the diverse people of the Nechako Valley.

 

The Jeanne Clarke Awards are presented each year to individuals, or groups, who have made an outstanding contribution to the field of northern history. Jeanne Clarke was a founding member of the local history committee of the Prince George Public Library.
