P.G. Woman To Receive B.C. Community Achievement Award
Prince George, B.C.- Janet Renquist of Prince George has been named a recipient of a B.C. Community Achievement Award.
She is being recognized for using her experiences as a newcomer to Canada to help and support immigrant and refugee families who have settled in the North. A pioneer member of the African Heritage Society she is also a key supporter and important resource for the Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society of Prince George.
Also among the 35 recipients, is Mary Forbes of Williams Lake. She is being recognized for her community involvement in projects ranging from the Scout Island Nature and Interpretive Centre to the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society’s Waste Wise Program, as well as for her leadership in the restoration of Potato House and its community garden.
"The community achievement awards honour individuals who have made a significant contribution either as volunteers or in the course of their work," said Keith Mitchell, chair of the British Columbia Achievement Foundation. "We’re privileged to showcase and celebrate the contributions of these exceptional British Columbians."
The awards will be presented during a formal presentation at Government House in Victoria on March 14, 2013. Each will receive a certificate and a medallion designed by B.C. artist Robert Davidson.
