Independent MLA Calls for Fall Election Dates
Prince George, B.C.- Cariboo North MLA Bob Simpson, introduced legislation today, calling for a change to the fixed election date. While too late to have any impact on the election that will take place in May of this year, Simpson says moving future election dates to the fall would provide more certainty for business as the spring budget would be passed and would not be seen as an "election budget".
Simpson proposes the fixed election date be moved to the first Tuesday of October as of 2017. He points to the fact that of the nine provinces which have fixed election dates, only BC and Alberta hold their votes in the spring.
Simpson says giving the legislature the opportunity to debate the budget would "de-politicize" the spending plan. He is urging the government to make the committment to a change in the election date now, before the May ballot "If you change the date after you win a mandate, it looks like you’re doing it for selfish reasons, so it’s important to do this now.”

If Bob likes it so do I. Good man. Tobad Carol dumped him. I guess she was probably affraid of good advice.
Cheers
Makes sense actually.
And for that reason, it likely won’t be approved.
A fixed fall election date is already NDP policy and will be legislated once the NDP takes power. Bob Simpson is grandstanding as usual.
If we had a few more politicians like Bob with the courage to be effective independents we might be able to have a minority government where independents hold the balance of power and the legislature starts to resemble the elected body of a democracy.
Having the budget cleared up before the fudgit election cycle makes sense for transparency if nothing else.
Election timing won’t make the difference. Any budget in an election year is an election budget. This is pointless.
If we have to put up with the fiberals for another minute more than necessary I’m going to screem!
Simpson is grasping at straws. Independent MLA`s have no teeth…they are a waste of space in this province. They have no power and no money…Simpson is a good man, but without a party is useless in his position, reducing himself to riding a donkey fighting windmills.
thats the spirit! lets stick with the status quo.
