YXS and PSAC Have New Contract

Friday, February 22, 2013 @ 2:32 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George Airport Authority and the union representing administrative staff and air-side maintenance and operations workers at the Airport, have ratified a new contract.

The 3 year deal provides a 2.5% wage increase in each year of the contract and adds Family Day to the list of designated paid holidays.

Public Service Alliance Regional Executive V.P for BC, Bob Jackson, says the union membership approval of the contract was nearly unanimous.

Airport CEO John Gibson credits a “great working relationship” with the union as a key reason why a new contract has been achieved before the existing one expires at the end of March.

The new contract will ensure labour stability through the Canada Winter Games in 2015 as it won’t expire until March 31st of 2016.

Rather interesting that they once again use the percentage to show the increase. Ie; 2.5% each year for 3 years, but they do not indicate how much this amounts to in actual dollars.

Considering that at any given moment the Airport Authority is borderline broke, and operating on borrowed money, you would think that no increases would have been more in line.

Seems there is no correlation between what you pay out, and what you earn, when your income is subsidized by taxpayers.

So you for saw the economy tank did ya.

seamutt….you have beat the hell out of that excuse.

Seamutt. The Prince George Airport Authority is a basket case. They have drained millions and millions of dollars out of the citizens of Prince George through the Airport Improvement Fee’s and have made all sorts of improvements that were supposed to create new business, and create additional revenue.

None of their projects have been successful.

1. The terminal expansion is only used 1 day per week for 16 weeks a year for charter flights to Mexico, and costs big money to operate.

2. The increase in parking costs big bucks, however at any given moment you have 300 empty parking spaces so why the need to expand.??

3. The runway expansion was to attract international cargo and passenger jets, and generate huge revenue for the airport. In fact their 20 year plan states that by 2010 we would have 815 international flights per year, and 85000 foreign passengers. WE HAVE NOTHING.

4. In partnership with Western Star Ventures they were to have a 25000 sq ft Warehouse built on the North end of the Airport by 2011. IT NEVER HAPPENED. We now have the Airport Authority looking for expressions of interest to build a 25000 sq ft Warehouse, on the North end of the Airport. Closing date the beginning of March. What happened to Western Star Ventures???

5. The fuel farm on the North end of the Airport was to be established and run by Sands Bulk Distribution (apparently) however it now appears that these tanks belong to the Airport Authority, and will not be available for use until this fall, because of damage to the pumps. What happened to Sands???? Who will run the tanks???

6. The Airport Improvement fee’s have been increased from $5.00 when the Authority was established to $20.00. These fee’s are used to pay for improvements, and the improvements are to generate additional revenue for the Airport. THERE HAS BEEN NO ADDITIONAL REVENUE GENERATED FROM ANY PROJECTS SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE AIRPORT AUTHORITY.

7. Management and staff continue to get increases in salaries to run this Authority, however (especially management) do not deserve any raises because none of their projects have been successful.

Sooooo. What do we do. The Airport Authority has been given a free ride by the Federal Government, the City of Prince George, and by the press. We need to have a complete and honest appraisal of the Authority with a view to finding out where do we go from here.

Whats the chance of that happening.

middle finger the facts speak for themselves.

I smell an Airport Improvement Fee increase coming… possibly of… oh I don’t know…. 2.5%?

“middle finger the facts speak for themselves”………

Okay seamutt, I’m all ears…er eyes. If you know of any cargo carrier that had plans to even do tech stops at YeXe$ and cancelled them because of the “economy” I would be very interested. Fact away.

middle finger. Good question. Don’t hold your breath for an answer,.

You guys are a laugh riot, found this with 2 seconds search on the internet, you know the internet.

METRANS – 2006 Air Cargo: Engine for Economic Growth and Development – A Case Study of Asian Region
Conclusion In viewing the performance of air traffic growth in Asian region, air cargo business has a good potential, especially china and India are striding to share the air cargo in the region. Globalization of trade has become the driving force of economic growth and led to increase in the integration of national boundaries. This doctrinal shift has endorsed many developing and less developed economies to achieve sustained economic growth in the region. Further, the liberalized aviation environment has fashioned copious new international highways in the sky and earmarked great improvement and transformation in the speed and accessibility of the nation’s businesses to the global suppliers and customers. In performing these, the competitiveness of the nation’s businesses will augment additional inflow of foreign direct investment, which will be attracting to achieve the country’s economic development. In addition, it also chains in the expansion of urbanization, revenue generation, industrial developments and employment opportunities to act as engine for economic growth and development in the region.

Then everything went bust but you two already knew that, right.

LOL….seamutt,I hope you didn’t hurt yourself stretching that far.

Seamutt. Its a big world out there. Air Cargo will no doubt increase all over the world, however this does not mean it will have any effect what so ever on Prince George BC.

Anchorage is already established, and has been since 1912. They have 700 Wide Body Cargo jets landing and taking off every week. Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and many, many, other Cities are in the Air Cargo and distribution business.

All the Major Air Cargo Companies have warehouse and distribution terminals in Anchorage.

Why would they duplicate what they already have???

Too bad our city hall couldn’t get .10 cents for every rail container passing through. Could pay off the city debt in no time.

Actually the railway pays the City taxes based on the number of rail cars, or the number of tonnes that travel through the City, so in a sense we do get our 10 Cents worth.

Palopu, to middle, you guys are a laugh riot. Look at a map, PG is closer Asia, less fuel cost. once the facilities are in should be interesting.

Righhhhht. I remember the sales pitch well. Prince George is conveniently located on the circum-polar navigational route. When you see jets high in the sky, flying by, that means the “jet stream” is over us. It doesn’t mean the planes are looking for a fuel station.
