Mayor Killam Recognized for Service to Community
Mackenzie, B.C.- Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam has been awarded a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
The medal was presented last night at Mackenzie Council chambers by Garth Frizzell, a Director with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Killam was being recognized for her dedication to her community, particularly during the down years when Mackenzie faced difficult challenges because of mill closures.
A member of Mackenzie council for 17 years, the past 8 as Mayor, Killam has shown tenacity in helping keep her community together. She was surprised by the award, telling 250News, “I really just thought it was all part of my job”.
Killam is not the only Northern B.C. Mayor to receive the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal. Mary Sjostrom of Quesnel is also slated to receive the award. The details on when that presentation will be made have not yet been released.
