Ted Moffat Was More Than A Pillar of the Community

I don’t know how to begin to write this comment; I am crushed to hear of the death of Ted Moffat. He was more than a pillar in this community; he was part of its foundation.
Not much has ever been written about Ted, he wanted that way. He stayed below the radar helping his fellow man in this region and never seeking any of the possible glory that might go with it.
He cared deeply about this city and the region. He understood it well and he knew the way in which it should run.
Just as his father before him, my pen over the years has on many, many occasions just been an extension of Ted and Harold’s mind. I am grateful for what Ted taught me about this city, its people and his desires to see that it grew and blossomed.
You never saw Ted waving his hands in the air at his accomplishments, he didn’t want to, he simply went about his business day to day, and that business included his love for the city where he was born and raised.
A group of us tried in vain to get him to run for the Mayor’s job in the last Civic election, perhaps sensing something that we didn’t know, he declined. We did wet his appetite though and he said that if he had run it would only have been on the condition that he would be paid a dollar a year, just has his father had. That speaks volumes about the character of the man.
We often ask the question of one another, are you in Prince George because you want to be and love this city, or are you here to get a piece of the action and then leave? Ted Moffat loved this city deeply.
Make no mistake, Ted Moffat wore this city on the sleeve of his shirt. No pretension, no ‘I’m special’, no ‘I’m Ted Moffat’, he was, just one of us and that is a compliment to a man for whom I had the highest respect.
This City will miss you Ted.
May you rest in peace.

This is truly very sad. Knowing Ted for many years he was a great man and will be missed. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.
Man, the memories I have of the Moffat family from decades ago, good neighbors, good honest family, integrity never breached.
An institution, an icon of Prince George. If you couldn’t get a product anywhere else, you went to the Northern Hardware. If they didn’t have it, they’d order it in. Everybody in the north knows them for their good, honest business practices.
My condolences to the family, we’ve all lost someone very special.
So well stated for all of us, Ben. Yes, may he rest in peace. He was a very high quality human being free of the negatives we see during each City Council meeting.
Well said Ben. I showed up in this city in 1965 and the Moffat family was always well respected. I worked for the city public works while Teds father Harold was Mayor and I must say he was respected even while on the other side of the table. Ted carried on those traits and was respected also.
the current city govenors would do well to take note of these people and their passions.
RIP Ted with all due resect.
I will miss his sense of humour, his smile and will never, ever, ever forget his one of a kind laugh.
“We often ask the question of one another, are you in Prince George because you want to be and love this city, or are you here to get a piece of the action and then leave?”
Sadly, most people in this town are here because of work, not because they love the city. This is one of the biggest probems we have. Who will replace a guy like Ted Moffat?
Ted Moffat was truly a Prince George icon.
Condolences to the family.
