Prince George, B.C. – Highway 97 caught many a driver off guard this morning, as slick road conditions were partially to blame for a number of crashes from Buckhorn Road to south of the new scales in Red Rock.
Even a police cruiser hit the ditch.
RCMP remind everyone ( even their own) that when the roads are slick, you have go slow down and drive at a speed more conducive to the road conditions.
Investigators say there were about 7 crashes along that stretch of highway this morning, luckily no serious injuries to report.

What no condescending PSA?

ICBC still say 100% at fault, even for the police cruiser. Driving exceeding the conditions.

So who’s insurance gets dinged for the police cruiser? The driver or the RCMP (taxpayers)

Every one’s a perfessional driver til that
“OH CRAP” moment, LOL. Glad there were no serious injuries.

I was driving back from the lower mainland on Monday, and the roads turned to total crap right at the weigh scales (around 4pm) – I mean TOTAL CRAP compared to just south of the scales.

My brother was driving out of town last night at around 6pm … and said the roads improved dramatically just south of the
weigh scales. Hmmmmmm?

Is this the boundary for the different highway maintanence companies? If so, it’s appalling what we have to put up with.

Pete, for years I’ve driven all the highways out of PG. You get 60 k or so out of town and the maintenance improves. Always remember thinking, well, if I can get past the first 60 we’ve got no problem.
You might want to send a letter or email to your MLA’s, the more letters they get, perhaps we’ll see some changes.

How long did it take YRB to turn this section into dirt road after the cop hit the ditch?

The RCMP self insure. So their costs from accidents come from their budgets, which we as taxpayers ultimately pay.

So if the RCMP did not self insure

1. the cost of insurance would come from their budgets

2 the RCMP accident claims would then come from the come from the ICBC pool of insured drivers/owners

3. There are very few people/companies in BC who pay taxes who do not also own vehicles which they drive.

Thus, as is normally the case, the taxpayer pays in any case.

Holy crap, a story about passenger vehicles in the ditch. Will the wonders ever cease.
