Kordyban Lodge Grand Opening Tomorrow

Thursday, February 28, 2013 @ 3:58 AM
Prince George, B.C. –Kordyban Lodge will officially open tomorrow, but will receive its first guests on Monday.

Premier Christy Clark will attend the opening which is slated for 2-3 in the afternoon, after which the public will be able to visit and tour the new facility  from 4:30 to 6:30 as Kordyban Lodge hosts an open house.

Kordyban Lodge is designed to be a home away from home, for those who have travelled to Prince George to receive cancer treatment at the new Northern Cancer Centre.

In addition to offering comfortable surroundings for cancer patients and their care givers, the 25 thousand square foot facility will provide meal service for guests and special rooms for meditation, reading, a family room, massage therapy, a library and exercise facility.

The Lodge  is accepting reservations from out of town patients.  As of yesterday afternoon, only two had confirmed they would be staying  at the Lodge  when it officially accepts its first guests on Monday March 4th.
Reservations can be made by calling 250-562-3535

It’s about time. I hope they have a parking lot. Worst streets in town due to overcrowded on street parking.

Whats going on the Lions have just closed their Easter Seal house? How much did Cristy Crunch contribute to this project? We will be thrilled to listen to this little girl give us the good news.
Cheers

There has been a lot of construction there over the last two years. I think it is all or mostly all finished by now. It will be interesting to see whether parking will go back to normal.

doogood: “It’s about time. I hope they have a parking lot. Worst streets in town due to overcrowded on street parking.”

I don’t know about the Kordyban Lodge specifically, but parking always seems to get forgotten, doesn’t it? Look at the parking around many of our medical buildings now. Woefully inadequate.

People avoiding parking fees

Is this FREE accommodation for cancer patients?

There is parking at the Health unit across the hospital on Edmonton.

There is parking at the hospital. The smaller lot off Edmonton is often not quite full.

There is parking under the new Cancer Clinic, presumably for staff.

There is a new parkade to replace the on-grade parking which was where the Cancer Clinic is now.

I do not know what the Kordyban Lodge has done or will do for parking.

I do not know what additional parking the Simon Fraser expansion has provided for. Perhaps the Parkade is supposed to handle atll that.

The Phoenix Medical building is difficult to access during parts of the day.

The Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa, which is surrounded by undeveloped land, takes care of parking very nicely.

Here are the rates:

The current parking rates are –
0-5 mins: Free grace period
6-15 mins: $2.00
16-30 mins: $4.00
31-60 mins: $8.00
61-90 mins: $11.00
91-120 mins: $13.00
Daily Maximum: $14.00

Couple those rates with no parking signs on 10th avenue and you would be amazed how many parking spaces would be freed up.

It certainly seems odd to me, that Easter seal house is closing it’s doors (apparently because of no quests) and now the big to-do over the new Lodge! And I have a question, just where is this new lodge?
I had occasion to stay at the Cancer center lodge in Vancouver, many yrs ago.
A peaceful retreat!
