Prince George, B.C. – It’ll be the Prince George Spruce Kings against the Chilliwack Chiefs in the first round of the BC Hockey League playoffs.
That much was determined Saturday night as the Spruce Kings beat the Langley Rivermen to lock up third place in the Mainland Division while the Chiefs made certain of finishing second in the division with a victory over Cowichan Valley.
At the Coliseum the Spruce Kings held period leads of 2-0 and 3-1 on their way to a 4-1 victory over the Rivermen. Two Spruce Kings, Shayne Morrissey and Coltyn Hansen, scored their 19th goals of the season to lead the way. The other markers came from Mark Begert and Chad Staley. Kirk Thompson was solid in the Prince George net, making 33 saves as the Rivermen outshot the Kings 34-29. The clubs meet again at 3 Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum.
Chilliwack blanked Cowichan Valley 3-0 Saturday night.
So the first round of the playoffs will see the Chiefs and Spruce Kings meeting March 15th and 16th in Chilliwack before heading to Prince George for games on the 18th and 19th.
The Langley Rivermen will meet the first-place Surrey Eagles in round one.
