Dust Advisory Issued
Prince George, B.C. – Just as the Claean Air forum is set to get underway in Prince George, a dust advisory has been issued.
The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 24 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site, 13 µg/m3 at College Heights at 8 am today.
he provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 64 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 29 µg/m3 at College Heights and 34 µg/m3 at BCR at 8 am today.
Based on the quality data, the high levels are mainly due to road dust in the bowl area. Light winds and dry conditions overnight as well as clear skies contributed to dust accumulating in the air shed. Air quality is expected to be better at higher elevations. Levels may improve slightly this afternoon but increase again this evening.
This Dust Advisory is expected to be in effect at least until tomorrow afternoon, with an update to be provided this afternoon at 4:30 pm.

A dust storm, eh????? From Saudi Arabia??
At 9am this morning the high PM10 hourly average was over 120 … higher than at any time yesterday …..
Its from all those folks in town kicking up the dust as they go jogging in the morning before their meetings…..
Also, excess levels of the letter “O” today.
lol – took me a second govsux
Might have to simplify the write up for mayor and council to understand. PM10, micrograms, rolling average, etc. Pretty technical for that group.
Good point Resident.
Where is the airshed police? They just had a big get together and bingo the air quality is in the dumper.
Cheers
Been a very mild winter.
Silly me. I had thoughts that I might have caused this advisory by using my wood heater or idling my car at Timmy’s
Well hang in there, sweeping won’t be completed until the end of July. Most likely they’ll just push the gravel and crap into the potholes.
Thats why we have potholes.
Cheers
There wouldn’t be as much road dust blown up into our air if the brain dead among us would stop driving in the windrows of it alongside the curbs and down the center lines!
We are surrounded by stupid.
So there’s dust in the air today? Do people in the desert run and hide when a little sand gets blown around? Does not concern me as much as the chemicals that belch out of all the stacks at the pulpmills, the refinery, the chemical plant and the idling locomotives on 1st ave. Oh yeah, that’s right… we’re not supposed to point the air quality discussions in the direction of big business.
Prince George has an incredibly high rate of people with respiratory problems and it can only come from woodstoves and road dust…..SURE!
