Prince George, BC- The task of finding out how Prince George residents want to celebrate the City’s centennial is underway.

About 150 people turned out to Exploration Place yesterday to offer their thoughts . "The Prince George Symphony wants to launch a centennial overture contest" says anniversary committee chair Councilor Murry Krause . He says it is clear people would like to see celebrations thorough out 2015 and the Winter Games will be the cornerstone .

But Krause adds there are already events that normally take place over the course of any given year and the hope is the centennial celebrations will be able piggy back with many of those events "whether it be Coldsnap, Pops In the Park, the Exhibition , there are a number of events which will allow us to reach all segments of the population."

The party planning committee has a budget this year for the consultation portion of the project. This fall they will develop a budget for the events and ideas that will be pursued and will start the process of trying to land grants and sponsorship for the events.

Councilor Krause says his group will work very closely  with the fund raisers for the Winter Games to ensure they are not  stepping on toes, or  causing  donor fatigue  by approaching  all of the same  businesses and  people.

“The party planning committee has a budget this year for the consultation portion of the project” .. gee, what a surprise…let me guess….would it be L&M consulting getting the call?

Bout darned time they wanna party… it’ll almost be like the good ole days years ago…ahahhah

Maybe a surprise party to announce funding for the Fort George Highway Rescue Society?
Granting of a city owned parcel of land on which to construct a dedicated headquarters for same?
A “budget for the consultation portion”
These people are out of their minds.
metalman.

metalman, I agree that they are out of their minds. Stop the stupid spending of money on consulting for this party. Seriously, no one at the City knows how to throw a party?! Like the article says, why doesn’t the City involve other groups to plan events for the 100th anniversary and spread the expense of the celebrations around.
