What was the total vote count??

why, what does it matter?

Congratulations Dominic Frederick and Councillors for putting your names forward!!

I would like to congratulate Haldi resident Jen Pighin and wish her all the best on your new endeavours!

I would suggest the first agenda for this new group especially Jen Pighin is push the band to work on the treaty negotiations for the Hutda Lake area for a treatment centre for women.

At the exorbitant cost the centre will be charging 0f 6500 a month even band members will not be able to afford. It appears Dr Sutter has pulled a fast one on the poorer people to get this centre in the Haldi area.

By the way, it can be done by the bands and the government to benefit all…it has been done….

I’m curious, with all the controversy over Chief Teresa Spence and salaries paid to various Chiefs, does anybody know what our local chiefs are paid, including Terry Teegee. I ask this because I saw Mr. Teegee on the news again tonight, and as usual there seemed to be some expectation of more federal/provincial funds for more federal/provincial programs. How much does the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council have in it’s budget and how much of it do they spend on their salaries vs. what they spend on social programs to improve the lives of band members?

Loki. It would be interesting to know how many people put their name up for election, and who got how many votes, and what the total turn out was in relation to the number of people who were entitled to vote,.

(unofficial) 189 voted……
Chief –

Frederick 102
Rena Zatorski 87

Three councilors –
Louella Nome 96 votes,
Jennifer Pighin 77 votes
Clarence John 75 votes.

Eight others were in running.

Three people were acclaimed to the three positions – all of them six-year terms – on the Lheidli T’enneh’s elected Land Authority board. They were Elaine Gagnon, Candace Godwin and Wendy Jael.

I too congratulate Jen. I think she will make an excellent councilor with strong opinions and a genuine interest in helping the less fortunate. I think the Lheidi T’enneh will be well served by having an honest voice like hers on their board.

Hey HartGuy…how much are you paid? I am curious how you think the amount they are paid should be determined?? Should they be on a salary, commission, or maybe be paid by the hour?? Should other considerations be taken into account..like size of budget, number of employees and members maybe? What about consideration for ‘performance’ [something Canadian Senators don’t have]?? Paid holidays? Overtime? Perks? A company car maybe?

When they lose an election can they go on UIC? Do they earn any pensions while holding these elected positions? What about severance packages?? Are these paid positions covered under the Labour Code and WorkSafe?

This could turn into quite an educational experience if we don’t just focus on ‘how much they are paid compared to Prime Minister Harper’.

Jim13135, I am self-employed and if you were to hire me, you would receive full disclosure as to how much I am paid and for what services provided.

I don’t get paid holidays, overtime, perks or a company car. If my work slows downs, I don’t qualify for EI. I don’t have a pension plan and will never receive a severance package. I comply with all relevant Labour Codes and WorkSafe requirements.

As far as Prime Minister Harper, his salary is paid out of the tax base, to which I make a sizeable contribution each and every year. I know how much he is paid as the information is readily available on the internet!

The tax base that I contribute to also provides compensation for Chief Terry Teegee as well as Chief Frederick and all other chiefs, government workers, welfare recipients and so on.

We all seem more than happy to bitch and complain about how much we pay our Prime Minister, our Premier, our Mayor and others! I wish Chief Frederick well and from what I know about him, he seems to be a pretty decent and honourable person. I’m not sure what I think of Terry Teegee, but I also think that I have a right to know how much I and the rest of the tax base are providing these “politicians” in compensation.
