Spring Break Nearly Here

Friday, March 15, 2013 @ 3:57 AM
Prince George, B.C.-Spring Break starts when school is let out this afternoon, but the Prince George Airport is already seeing lots of activity. “We have been seeing traffic pick up since mid week” says YXS spokesperson Lindsay Cotter.

With the heavy snowfall and freezing rain, Cotter says passengers could help keep everything running on time by arriving at least an hour and a half before their flight departs. “That way everyone can be through security, and boarded to allow for the de-icing process.”
There are advisories out for those who plan to head to the back country or ski resorts for spring break.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre is asking that people stay within the boundaries "Crossing a boundary rope is a big decision” says Karl Klassen, acting executive director for the Canadian Avalanche Centre. “Once you’re outside the ski area boundaries you’re in the backcountry and you need to be able to take care of yourself and your partners. That means avalanche rescue equipment, first-aid supplies and awareness of the risk you’re
taking."

This is the time of the year, especially with the recent snowfall, that major avalanches can occur. The latest bulletin on the CAC website indicates with the exception of the Northwest coast and Northwest inland regions where the risk is “considerable” all other areas of B.C. are carrying a “high” risk of avalanche.

Too bad the weather doesn’t reflect that. Have fun kids.

Really hope the folks in this town don’t forget that there’ll be kids all over the place for the next two weeks, walking out in front of traffic, etc. Can we all slow down and watch out for kids playing, please? Yes quite often they’re clueless to the dangers, perhaps we can help them by taking it a little slower in residential areas.

Is spring break what we used to call Easter Break before we got all politically correct?
