Prince George, B.C. – The 2012-2013 athletic season at UNBC goes into the books as a notable campaign.
It marked UNBC’s inaugural year as a member of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) body, the highest level of university sports in all of Canada. And present at every one of the Timberwolves home games, cheering on the home team, was the First Nations Drum team.
The First Nations Centre at the university will be honouring the Timberwolves graduating players by presenting them with their own mini-drum at the UNBC Athletic banquet this Monday night. With seven graduating players finishing their final season with the Timberwolves this year, the drummers decided that each of them should receive a special gift, an eight-inch, hand-made mini drum. Each drum has a hand-painted First Nations Centre logo along with ‘UNBC’ and the number of the graduating player’s Jersey.
The finalists for the major athletic awards at UNBC this year are:
Female Athlete of the Year
Women’s Basketball – Mercedes VanKoughnett
Women’s Basketball – Emily Kaehn
Women’s Soccer – Sidney Roy
Male Athlete of the Year
Men’s Basketball – Francis Rowe
