Cougars End 2012-2013 With A Loss to Kamloops.
The Prince George Cougars wrapped up their 2012-2013 regular season Saturday with a 7-0 loss to the Kamloops Blazers. Brendan Ranford led Kamloops with three points while Cole Ully and Tim Bozon each had two-point games. Taran Kozun stopped all 31 shots he faced for his second shutout of the season. For the Cougars it was the final game for 20-year-olds Ryan Hanes, Dallas Ehrhardt and Captain Daniel Gibb.
Kamloops led 1-0 after one thanks to Cole Ully’s first of two on the night. Ully’s power play goal was assisted by Brendan Ranford at 11:52 of the first. Despite the 1-0 deficit, the Cougars outshot Kamloops 13-10, and put some good pressure on in the first 20 minutes.
The Blazers tacked on three more in the second. First it was Ully his second of the game just 23 seconds into the period. Then towards the end Kale Kessy and Tim Bozon scored 48 seconds apart to give Kamloops a 4-0 lead after two periods.
Dylan Willick, Deven Sideroff and Connor Clouston would all strike for goals in the third period making the final score 7-0 for Kamloops. Taran Kozun faced some tough Cougars opportunities in the third period, but turned away all 13 Cougars attempts to hold onto his shutout.
Though the final score favored Kamloops the game’s highlight came at the very end when Cougars Captain Daniel Gibb and veteran forward Ryan Hanes were announced as two of the three stars for the game.
Fellow 20-year-old Dallas Ehrhardt did not play tonight because a lower body injury, but he leaves the WHL with 209 games played, 11 goals, 69 points and 254 penalty minutes. Ehrhardt played with Brandon, Moose Jaw and Prince George.
Ryan Hanes finishes his WHL career with 224 games played, 23 goals, 51 points and 371 penalty minutes. Hanes spent three seasons with the Kamloops Blazers before ending his WHL career in Prince George.
Cougars Captain Daniel Gibb spent his entire WHL career with the Prince George Cougars. He played in 266 career games, scored eight goals, 33 points and 249 penalty minutes.
The Cougars finish their regular season with a record of 21-43-2-6 and will finish ninth in the Western Conference standings.

let the dissection begin!!!i have heard rumors from two sources that the cougars have been sold,BUT this may be wishful thinking…however,in my opinion rick and dallas must go or the fan support will continue to evaporate.. the new coach is certainly an improvement over clark, but he needs size and talent to work with…i believe the trainer, chico, knows the most about the character, conditioning and heart of each player as he is at every practice, game etc…i would value his opinionon who to keep as 20 year olds even though we often trade for our 20 year olds.. other fans please comment!
I would like to see a new owner and a team that is playing above .500 for me to go to a game.
I used to go alot but not anymore.
Hopefully there is a new owner.
Chilliwack bound.
Next up is the big announcement that Thompson’s contract is not being renewed. Hopefully they’ll bring in a GM that understands the game and they start building some size to the team.
Calling 7-0 a loss is a bit of an understatement. Not a good way to end the season.
Seems like there were a few more fans there for the game 2360. Still far short of the 3000 a game needed for this franchise to be viable.
Two simultaneous fights and 10-minute misconducts when the game was already 6-0 with three minutes left.
Right… that sends a message. (insert eye roll here)
Axman, even if that were to be true, who is serving up the dish of bad news? Father-In-law or his wife… “honey, we need to talk…”
That could make for interesting conversation over Easter brunch.
How many ‘rumours’ have I heard over the years that the team has been sold, it’s moving, etc.? Lots.
Until I hear something official, it’s all BS.
As for the team, another unsuccessful season when they were touted to be at least a middle of the pack team. Of course, losing two of your top scorers (because they quit) doesn’t help.
Would it be too much to ask the Cougars management “team” maybe to install suggestion boxes near all exits? Might help.
