Fortwood Peewees Face Elimination
Grand Forks – The season-long ride is all but over for the Prince George Fortwood Homes peewee tier 4 Cougars after another loss at the provincial tournament in Grand Forks.
The Cougars fell to 0-3 after a pair of defeats on Monday, the last one a 3-1 setback to the host Bruins, soft plays in the defensive zone proving to be Prince George’s downfall.
Earlier Monday, the Cougars held an early 2-0 lead but were overwhelmed the rest of the way in being defeated 7-5 by the Vanderhoof Bears.
Quinten Astorino had the only goal for the Cougars against Grand Forks. Prince George got strong netminding from Josh Fielding, who came on in relief if Tyler Lindstrom after Grand Forks took a 2-0 lead in the first period. Grand Forks outshot Prince George 26-25.
The Cougars play unbeaten Kelowna (2-0-1) at 2 pm on Tuesday, then will close out their season with games Wednesday (2 pm, vs. Juan de Fuca) and Thursday (8 am, against Semiahmoo).
