Prince George, B.C. – The College of New Caledonia is celebrating the fact its Prince George campus is built on the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.
Today the aboriginal heritage and cultures was recognized with the opening of the CNC Gathering Place, which is the area of the college formerly known as the Atrium. Aboriginal speakers and elders gathered with singers, dancers and drummers to join with college officials and other attendees to mark the opening. The new Gathering Place will work in conjunction with the multitude of services provided by the Aboriginal Resource centre for aboriginal students.
CNC Senior Policy Advisor and Manager of the resource centre, Marle Erickson says “It’s important to honour and acknowledge Aboriginal Peoples’ unique role in our region and celebrate the vibrancy of their cultures that enrich our society.” The Gathering Place features several displays of art works by a number of area artists.
The entranceway is headed by the Fountain of Two Rivers, which acknowledges the traditional territory of the Leidli T’enneh. The two streams in the fountain represent the Nechako and Fraser Rivers, and an eagle perched above them symbolizes strength, courage and vision. Up near the ceiling is a display of Geese in Landing Formation, the geese being symbolic of the 21 Aboriginal nations within CNC’s service region. Above the eastern entrance is a birch bark canoe, and petroglyphs on the south walls are inspired by rock paintings found on bluffs throughout the central interior.

Shouldn’t all these people be at work? Maybe they’re just between jobs, hmmm!
aboriginal people want to be acknowledged.
Ok, we acknowledge you. So lets all get back to work.
Nice to have a Job you can take time off ,the guy in the grey suit looks familiar.
I like it! Congratulations to Marlene Erickson.
Was there a problem ? People having trouble finding the atrium or does it just sound a little too Roman ? The front entrance will now be known as “the door”.
The Atrium is now “the gathering place”. Coming soon watch for the bookstore to be renamed “the place in which persons barter for bound pages of information”
;)
A what? Gathering place? Don’t students gather there to learn. Gawd.

My “gathering place” is at Tim’s. What a world, eh? “Two streams?” That’s easy. Westwood and Massey. “Traditional land?” Nah! Just some prime real estate. I’m good with that.
Sorry. No eagles at Tim’s. Got crows waiting for neglected Tim-bits though.
That’s an ill fitting gray suit. Definitely off the rack.
