Prince George, B.C. – The College of New Caledonia is shutting down its Prince George campus this weekend for a planned power outage.
The campus will be closed from 7 o’clock tonight until 6 a.m. Monday. CNC students and employees will not be allowed in the main building and will not have remote access to their e-mail, Internet and phones.
CNC’s Manager of Campus Development, Theo Mushumanski, says the college is replacing is aged Main Campus electrical distribution system in the main power plant. The main building houses the library, gymnasium, computer labs and study rooms which are used on weekends. The facilities shop and the old trades building will be down as well this weekend.
The student residence will have two, one-hour outages. The first is tonight at 6 to switch the building over to a portable generator. The second is Sunday at 5p.m. to switch the residence back to campus power.
Buildings not affected and which will stay open include the Prince George Tech Centre, the John A. Brink Trades and Technology Centre and the Nicholson building.
All of CNC’s regional campuses will be without Internet, e-mail and voice mail.

Great timing … busiest time of year for student term projects, etc. .. couldn’t this be scheduled for the middle of summer when most of the students are gone … oooops . forgot … that would disrupt staff holiday schedules
The timing for this project really sucks. Exams only a couple of weeks away. When I went to CNC. I was there every weekend at this time of year to study and get assignments completed. I could only get so much done at home with a 2 year old wanting my attention all of the time.
