Volunteers Gather Before The ‘Storm’
Volunteer canvassers prepare for this afternoon’s door-to-door campaign
Prince George, BC – City residents living within the boundary for the Prince George-Mackenzie riding may receive a knock on their door this afternoon, as ‘Storm the Riding’ volunteers attempt to put energy issues front and centre in constituents’ minds in the run up to the spring election.
Today’s event is organized by UNBC’s Students for a Green University. (click here, for previous story)
And spokesperson, Cam Bell, is hopeful as many as 30 volunteers will gather in the university’s Wintergarden this hour, before taking public transit into the riding’s neighbourhoods. Bell says volunteers plan to knock on as many doors as they can, west of the Highway 97 bypass, in an effort to get residents to pledge to vote for clean energy economy.
"We’re really looking forward to getting out there and talking to people about the importance of energy issues in the upcoming election," says Bell. "There are a lot of existing and proposed projects in our area, and we want to encourage voters to learn, think, and talk about energy in BC before they go to the polls on May 14th."
The door-to-door canvas will occur between 2pm and 4pm in Prince George and is going on elsewhere in the province. The initiative is part of a broader, province-wide campaign called ‘Power Vote BC’, aimed at making clean energy a voting issue in the spring election.

Lots of hot air would save us energy…does that mean we should vote Liberal?
A bunch of useful idiots. Hope they knock on my door.
Clean energy economy policy before it’s time will marginalize poor people. Think about that.
Shouldn’t you kids be somewhere drinking beer?
I would advise them NOT to knock on my door!
We keep the lights off as it is now all the time, trying to keep the hydro bill under control.
One light on in the room we are in, maybe the TV and I run my laptop on battery except while charging it.
No time for these pointless games.
What is wrong with all you posters?
They are doing a good thing bringing awarness to the need for clean enery.
What is wrong with that?
Actions like this is what changes the world in a better way.
Wasn’t that dude on the left in “The Hangover”?
If they show up with Mike Tyson and a tiger I will support the cause.
“…taking public transit into the ridings neighbourhoods.” Ha ha ha. Lol. Funneee! Good luck with that idea. Don’t hesitate to be nice in case you need a ride with one of those homeownwers back to your dorm after our “rapid transit” stops running for the day. You naive ivory tower denizens. Not quite clear on a job and paying taxes for over forty years. Carry on, future Utopians.
The first door that the guy on the far left knocks on will phone the cops on him…Picture that looking in your window, what would you do?
So just how do we vote for clean energy? Obviously they must have a party in mind?
Ps – I find it humorous that their sign on the wall is right beside Canfors sponsorship sign…LOL
You people crack me up. Is there nothing you guys won’t complain about? I for one like to see young people engaged like this.
This entire “clean energy” gimmick is just nonsense but it’s still nice to see people taking the time to discuss something they believe in.
Unless they can tell us who the candidate for clean energy is, I suspect they are just wasting their time.
Ask that guy on the far left if he always wakes up in the morning with his finger in his mouth.
In democratic society with a political system that we have in our country it is quite acceptable to have people state opinions and leaders follow with the needs of the people. In fact, that is how our system is supposed to work.
The people voice what they want, in this case if a great number of people want clean energy than the leaders mandate is to push towards that objective.
It doesnt matter who the leader is or what party. THEIR MANDATE IS TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE.
I beleive most people want clean energy if possible. There are some uneducated people, who state an opinion based on limited knowledge, as expressed previously by some posts on this Blog.
Those students knocking on doors should be giving some fair amount of respect.
Joey–they don’t represent our wishes or we would have capital punishment and no income taxes….
Imagine if someone invented a carbon neutral energy system that didn’t use convention fuels…they would never bring it to market because our economies would collapse.
Jim13135,
im not sure where you get capital punishment and no income taxes ???
can you explain?
( for anything to change you need it to be backed by the people. I dont think people want capital punishment. and you have to have taxes for a society to run.
Things happen when we have a great number of people supporting an issue. Thats what they are trying to do.
I beleive if someone invented carbon neutral energy we would be living a richer life. The economy would prosper and the oil companies would collapse or evolve toward the carbon neutral buisiness and continue on making money.
There have been many, many free or very sparse energy used systems invented and they are always shut down or bought out by big oil companies. The government and big business do no want anything of the sort. Just look at the Model T Ford for example. Ford had the great idea, that because farmers were producing alcohol anyway, he built his vehicles to run on it. Then along came Rockerfeller with oil. He needed a market so he funded the temperance movement in the States to outlaw alcohol. End of the free fuel.
No wonder I seldom post on here, it doesn’t seem to matter what the topic, all I read are negative comments by narrow minded morons. Really Mr. Bc racer, someone knocks on your door and you call that trespassing? You are an enormous dickhead, no doubt you meet people at the door in your underwear and shotgun.,idiot. What’s with all the people taking shots at the guy with the beard? Look at your fat ugly faces in the mirror, aren’t you beautiful? These kids are out to raise a bit if awareness and all you want to do is sit and make fun of a young mans appearance. It’s the one thing I’ve noticed since moving here is the overwhelming red neck crybabies that have nothing positive to add, do nothing but sit and bitch. Prince George will be forever a town stuck in the past as long as the main population has the good ole boys who have no tolerance, understanding or desire to join the modern world. Damn hippies caused all this, eh boys?
How are 6 geeks gonna ‘storm’ anything?
By looking at some of the posts on here. I would say that the goal for these students is being achieved. The whole idea behind this is to get people to at least talk and consider what options or possibilities there out there in regards to energy alternitaves. At the same time the green movement does need to come to grips that our economy is dependant on some level of impact to the environment. What we can do collectively is educate ourselves on how our consumption habits impact the environment and then decide which is the lesser evils we want to stick with. I don’t see that happening soon because we are too divided as a socity due to our political system that has the us vs them mentality instead of shared decision making with compromises. By the way the dude on the left does look like zack gafinackis!
Give me more says “There have been many, many free or very sparse energy used systems invented”
How can energy be free? Can you elaborate. Got examples?
So I take I the alcohol that is forced by government into our fuel is free. Then how come the cost of fuel did not decrease?

Not to mention name calling. Oops.
Yes lets turn off that evil energy.

They might be better off trying to infiltrate the riding.
Sure wish they had a plan to go for. Maybe a candidate to put forward that we could vote for?
It seems their message is directed at the party system in the hopes someone will do ‘something’ but the people with real power in the party system don’t have doors in PG and likely never will.
The one guys sign says register to vote… lol vote for who? Like PG Mackenzie has a viable candidate for their cause.
