Cluculz Lake, BC –  With the ice still on Cluculz Lake, the strength of residents’ resolve to fight the Vanderhoof pool referendum will be determined by the end of the day…

More than 200 property owners voted in favour of going to court to appeal the referendum result and came up with more than the necessary $3000 to retain a lawyer at a public meeting at the Cluculz Lake Community Hall earlier this month.

A second meeting was held this past Saturday to determine if the financial support was there to move forward with the court challenge. (click here for previous story)

Randy Holubosh and Dick Martin are two of the four Cluculz Lake residents named on the court petition against the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, which was filed on March 15th.  A hearing on the matter must be held on, or before, April 4th.  The two men have a meeting set for tomorrow morning with their lawyer, but wanted to ensure the financial backing of area residents is in place before takin the next step.

Holubosh told the crowd at Saturday’s meeting they’d have to have approximately $30-thousand dollars collected by tonight.  "A lot here may think it’s an impossible challenge, but I don’t think it is," he said.  "I think if we all realize we may have to dig a little deeper, it’s gonna hurt, but it’s going to be a one time payment and a chance to try and remove this referendum and get it thrown out."

Martin pointed out $200 from each person in attendance would amount ot $40-thousand dollars for legal fees.  The proponents said the amount collected by tonight will be their answer on support for the legal action.

A big Thank-you to Opinion 250 for doing such an accurate job of keeping this story up to date. Cluculz Lake residents really appreciate all the reporting you have been doing. WE sure can’t say that for the other media in this town.

cluculzjogger…….. I agree

Ditto to Opinion 250 doing a great job providing readers with the most up-to-date and relevant news in 250 region and especially for covering (and sometimes uncovering) the truth of what is happening in politics. Good luck to Cluculz Lake
Residents with their court battle.

Are you the residents of Clucluz Lake going to spend the same amount of money on the legal action as they would spend yearly for the pool in Vanderhoof? Just a thought. Might need to think about this one.

Do you really want to deny a pool to the children and residents on Vanderhoof?

bornandbred: Its not that we would deny them a pool, its simply not fair that we and the residents of Vanderhoof would be saddled with the bill for it. Why not the whole Regional District as well as Vanderhoof? They will all have access to it too.
Its like saying Prince George and the Hart area will pay for the Performing Arts Centre and the rest of us will attend it without any increase in taxes to pay for it.

“Why not the whole Regional District as well as Vanderhoof? They will all have access to it too.”

The ‘Regional District’ has access to the PG Pool as well, as well as many of our other public facilities.

Maybe the City of PG residents can get in on this action. Maybe the lawyers will give us all a discount.

Or, maybe we give every man, woman, and child in PG picture ID resident cards and only they can use our facilties. Makes sense, no?

First of all the cost to make this fair is not the same as owners would pay for taxes. Put yourself in the shoes of a property owner on the lake and now your going to get a tax bill for 30 years when we have been excluded for other projects in Vanderhoof, Library and Rec Centre. We don’t use those services either and not all of area F was included in our attempt to get a Upgraded Fire protection. Area rep said that would not be fair because they would not get the benefit. Then along comes let’s build a pool and get a large chunk of money from Lake residents of Cluculz and Bobtail. Area F will be contributing $256000.00 per year for 30 years. That means Area F will be putting in Seven Million Six Hundred and Eighty Thousand dollars and that is if they don’t increase our share for 30 years. Is that Fair. We are not against Pool in Vanderhoof just they need to build a pool that the immediate people of Vanderhoof who will use it can afford to pay for. Not against pool in Vanderhoof but you can not expect seasonal property owners to pay for it.

sucker, if your figures are right, then I get it why you wouldn’t want the pool to be built.

Stumble Bum politicians trying once again to hose taxpayers.

The Provincial and Federal Governments, along with the forest and mining companies in the area could throw in a bunch of money and get this pool built,. It is they, and their children, and workers who will benefit.

Time to back away from taxing people to death, and wasting the money in the greater Vancouver area, on bogus programs, and transit.

It maks cents. Spend the $400 to $500/per property now to fight this and it will save us $200 to $400 per year for the next 30 years. This is a $1.08 per thousand accessed and we know accessments go up every year.

borrnandbred my numbers are right from the RNBN notice. Area F share is $256000.00 and the term is 30 years and everyone is kidding themselves if they think it ends in 30 years and doesn’t go up.

Don’t forget it is only the loan for the 4 million that is the term for 30 years, paying for the maintenance of the pool goes on forever, and it goes up every year.
