Vancouver, B.C.- A three day symposium on oil spill prevention and spill response has wrapped .
Now, a working group will move forward to address the three themes which emerged from the symposium:
-
A new planning and response model for B.C. needs to account for both risk and consequence.
-
A clear definition of what substances and sectors the model will include.
-
A new funding mechanism should have clear accountabilities and goals.
The working group is made up of representatives from First Nations, industry, government and stakeholders. This group will continue to meet over the next several months to develop recommendations to be considered by the Ministry of the Environment.
The recommendations from the working group will be made public and there will be consultation before any specific changes are made.
