PST Returns To BC On Monday

Sunday, March 31, 2013 @ 5:19 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Province of British Columbia officially returns to the Provincial Sales Tax (PST) plus federal goods and services tax (GST) system tomorrow, April 1st.

The list of goods and services affected by the switch back to PST/GST from the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) system is lengthy, to say the least. So here is the Government of B.C. site to visit to find out what the switch means, and what is and is not taxable.

If you are not able to  find  the answers you are looking for,  the  PST phone lines will be open today and tomorrow  from  7 a.m. to 7 pm.   You can call 1-877-388-4440, if  you need more information.

I am self employed in the home reno business. I am always busy. I work for cash. There is no shortage of people that want to pay cash for jobs done. So yes I do work.

April is tax month matty. Are you going to pay the tax that rightly belongs to the federal and provincial governments on your unclaimed income(plus interest of course) or wait until they track you down and then you can add penalties on top.

The finance minister has said that they are going to go after tax cheats. I think I’ll forward posts like the one above to the local tax office to aid them in this effort:)

To use your own words “You and your ilk are just sickening.”

The above could have a plus if the government offered a “finders fee”. Of course that finders fee would be taxable because it is income. Alas!

good idea lonesome, give the tax man a lead on the likes of this dodger.

Speaking of taxes. The original referendum put forward by Bill Vanderzalm, required the Government to return all the taxes they collected with the HST if the referendum passed.

This of course was one reason the Liberals had their own referendum, and referendum question.

When it comes to taking money the Provincial Government makes any tax dodger look like **small fry**. They basically took $1.6 billion a year from consumers to offset the $1.6 billion tax break they gave to business and corporations.

You HST lovers are clutching at straws. Start paying your business and corporate taxes. You and your ilk are just upset that WE WON the referendum and now your have to start paying your share again. Try cranking up your prices more then you already have. WE THE TAXPAYERS will just start boycotting your ripoff businesses. I boycotted you here for almost 4 years. So yes it can be done. You corporations and businesses are going to pay what you owe starting monday. As for me. You can’t get blood from a stone. I quit this system long ago. Do you think I would say these things and actually be working under the table? Not likely. I am here to see to it that the HST is EXTINGUISHED. I was a canvassers. I collected thousands of signatures just for people like this lonesome sparrow and all you other rich business owners. ANd the HST will be EXTINGUISHED monday morning. And you lonesome sparrow for one ARE GOING TO PAY WHAT YOU OWE. We the taxpayers are fed up paying 100% of YOUR tax bill. That is why we fought and won to have this HST EXTINGUISHED. Because we the taxpayers got stuck having to pay 100% for you. Get them cash registers re-programmed. Monday I am going out for a cheese burger. Will be awesome without HST stuck on it. Just wait lonesome sparrow we aint finished yet. In a few days more WE THE TAXPAYERS are going to remove the LIE-berals from office. How’s that grab ya? Bet you will say oh they can’t win that. Well buddy I say we win all 85 ridings again. How do ya like that?

Good, now on Monday PST becomes a job expense on all material. Add overhead and profit to that expense and the final cost for the end user just increased.

The HST will be gone and so will the B.C.Liberals.
They tried hard to save their sorry a**es and failed badly.
That’s what happens when you try to cover lies with more lies.
Even spite of Campbell bailing out for plum job…things only got worse for them.
Then they commited a huge error in judgement by shoving Christy Clark back in our faces…still smelling strongly of the B.C.Rail stink…which I might add,is far from over.
She wasn’t very popular when the questions got too close and she bailed out.
Why did they think that had changed while she was gone?
Very few are buying her spin and even other women dislike her intensely.
When asked why…my wife said that a woman can spot a phoney female from down the block, and they are usually right.(her words)
Now the B.C.Liberals are going to be gone and so is the HST…how ironic is that?
They could have just left the HST in place for all the good removing it did for them!
That may have had a lot to do with the length of time it took to get it gone.
Which was another cash grab…nothing less.
They actually could have just left the HST alone, called an early election, and they might have pulled it off.
Maybe.
But I doubt it.
In the end, they get what they deserve.

“Do you think I would say these things and actually be working under the table? “

OR

“I am self employed in the home reno business. I am always busy. I work for cash.”

I know you are not the sharpest chisel in the drawer but you made both of these statements that clearly contradict. I guess the taxman will decide when he knocks on your door.

-home renovations
-resided in city till a year or two ago
-lives west of town
-drives a van

Thanks to Ben for keeping posts and to google advanced search:) Might be a good idea to see if a business license fits any of those.

The liberals are already changing what was taxed with the PST! Adding to the list , nice bunch of crooks.

Glad that we will be back to the old system.
Good for the normal working guy. He has to pay his tax right away, when he gets his paycheque and had to paid than on top more for services like telofon landline, Services to Real Property including Repair, Maintenance or
Renovation of Real Property (e.g., Plumbing etc., kids clothing, the list goes just on.

Bad for all the self employed guys, they are the big whiners now as we can read above. They have to pay now a little bit, so less profit for those guys. And they even spend time on Easter reading old comments, people put on here.

I do not feel like reading old comments of posters, when they said, the PST will never come back- for what?
I am not a lonesome sparrow, wasting my time on that.
it’s Easter, sun is shining, go out for a walk and enjoy life instead of being miserable.
Life is great!!!!!!!!!!!

I drew the short straw and am babysitting a turkey or would be outside.

I don’t read all the batshite crazy postings, that is the job of google with a key word or two:)

Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there. red2b is correct.

Christy failed the first test of leadership when she didn’t scrap the tax after the collection of signatures. She decided to swim against the wave of discontent in BC and the wave got stronger and stronger and it turned into a tesunami which is going to drown her party after April.

“For in tremendous extremities human souls are like drowning men; well enough they know they are in peril; well enough they know the causes of that peril;–nevertheless, the sea is the sea, and these drowning men do drown.”
[Herman Melville]

Cristy could not just cancel the agreement with the feds, the termination clause stated that it would end no sooner than 18 months after written notice given unless BOTH parties agree on another date. I doubt Harper would have signed even with a gun to his head.

“stupid is as stupid does” (Forrest Gump:{)

Nothing but whining on this site now.

As to the return of the PST, boo hiss!

I bought shares in Old Dutch and Lays – I expect the market to explode now that Matty finds snack foods suddenly “affordable again” ;-)

Harper would have signed. I doubt very much if he was asked.

The Liberals kept the tax as long as possible, so they and their corporate buddies could milk it for all it was worth, before returning to the PST.

I think that is was apropos that they are getting rid of the tax on April 1st. It was a foolish tax, and April fools day is a good day to kill it off.

Good for you interceptor. Now that you are into being a corporation your tax is going up. You have to start paying again. All corporations will be paying again.

F..A..N…TASTIC

PS I will be sure to buy a bag a cheesies tomorow with no HST just for you. Life is going to be so much better starting at midnight. Cheaper too for all taxpayers.

Thank you very much to Bill and all the canvassers.

A friend of mine was going to buy a $1400.00 dollar bike a few weeks ago, but the store told him to weight until April 2nd, and he would save about $98 dollars.

So he did.

The Federal Government allowed BC to pay back the $1.6 Billion over 5 years interest free. The savings to the Government on the interest comes to about $100 Million. According to ex Liberal MLA, and soon to be unemployed, Kevin Falcon.

Whining on this site? Nah! I just interpret these as making observations by individuals. Is all.

Maybe the NDP will do something right when they get in and bring back the HST. But I wouldn’t count on them to do something that smart.

Reading all the comments now, well it gave me a good laugh.
Mattyc likes to entertain us all, wondering what he will be up to next week after we are back to normal – old system with PST, what we voted for.
And hey, don’t take it all so serious, its just money. We , the normal guys, paid for a while, and now the normal guys and the business guys will pay – and thats just fair, I think.
So hopefully no more whining of all the shop owners here anymore. you lost – too bad – but please accept it. That’s life!!

matty,

did you clean the spit off your chin?

Bwahahahahaha!!!!!

This site reminds me of one of the most powerful lessons I have ever learned ” Passion Rules Reason.”

Face palm! Mattyc they aren’t going to pay! You and I are going to pay. The business wants X amount of profit and if his costs go up he will pass those costs on to us. You didn’t win anything Mattyc.

A cheeseburger! With all those thousands you saved driving to GP you will think you would go out for a Big Juicy Steak.

And as Palopu puts it! I can’t “weight” until tomorrow!

I will vote for the party that pledges to eliminate the 12% on private vehicles.
Crispy Clark still shoved it up our collective rear ends by specifically keeping this one.

Imorge is right.
The 12% on vehicles needs to be gone.
It is a cash grab and nothing less.
Obviously, our politicians still don’t get it.
Christy Clark took a mess created by Gordon Campbell who sold out B.C.and his own party and I suspect that financially…it was worth it to him.
He should have been held accountable and he should have faced an indepth investigation into his personal finances.
And other B.C.Liberals as well…including Clark.
Once out of office, the entire B.C.Liberal party should be audited.
Including the backbenchers who sat through the decimation and said nothing.
That makes them a part of it all…it also makes them greedy cowards who failed to defend the very people who elected them.
Shame.

I still paid same price for my Timmy’s this morning.. what the hell…

More profit for timmies! Surprised? I’m not.

“The 12% on vehicles needs to be gone.
It is a cash grab and nothing less.”

Nope, not a cash grab but rather a parting gift to all the Car dealerships in the Provice. C’mon, its not like people actually put the true sale amount on the APV9T do they? really?

Still: “I still paid same price for my Timmy’s this morning.. what the hell…”

NoWay: “More profit for timmies! Surprised? I’m not.”

Lots of similar surprises in store for those who truly believed the fantasy that life would get cheaper after April 1st.

So if I’m a business that has to pay 7% more because of PST, I am going to charge 10% more to cover the admin costs. Like I said to Palupo the other day year over year costs were not 7% higher with HST, but nobody does a budget…….. so now consumers will pay more. Oh and my retired mother thanks you as well, she had a nice net gain from HST rebates. Costing her and a whole bunch of retired people more now.

Those against HST had no clue. You either pay consumption tax (HST) or you pay higher personal income tax. Yes the Liberals introduced the HST in the wrong way but those BC tax payers that voted against were dumber. By voting to eliminate HST it cost us tax payers over 2.5 Billion. That’s not the Liberals fault that you tax payers who voted HST out. Dumb dumb…. BC has to pay back the Feds to the toon of about 1.5 Billion and we had to start up a provincial tax dept. and hire a bunch of tax people. The worst part is the Liberals offered to reduce the HST down to 10% from 12% and people actually voted against it by rejecting HST. Dumb dumb. Not much hope for BC when tax payers have no clue about money, budgets and business.
