Prince George, B.C. – The RCMP Musical Ride is coming to Prince George.
The RCMP Musical Ride is scheduled to perform on Saturday July 13th and Sunday July 14th in the ice oval on the P.G. Exhibition Grounds.
"Musical Ride staff believe the Outdoor Ice Oval is one of the best outdoor venues they have ever seen" says Glen Mikkelsen,CN Centre’s Entertainment & Marketing Supervisor. "We look forward to bringing this national treasure to the grounds of Exhibition Park."
The Musical Ride was developed in 1876 by early members of the North-West Mounted Police to display their riding ability and entertain the local community. It has evolved over the decades into a uniquely Canadian performance enjoyed by tens of thousands of spectators every year. The troop of 32 horses and riders will perform a variety of cavalry drills choreographed to music.
Members of the Musical Ride are, first and foremost police officers. They all have at least two years experience in active police work before volunteering for duty with the Musical Ride. Surprisingly, most have no prior riding experience.
The Musical Ride will be performing two shows at the site of the outdoor ice oval behind CN Centre:
- Saturday July 13th, 2013 at 7:00 pm
- Sunday July 14th, 2013 at 2:00 pm
Horse stables will be open to the public from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm both days, except during show times.
The arrival of the Musical Ride is the result of 6 years of work to bring the iconic group to Prince George. The RCMP Musical Ride last performed in Prince George in 1997.
Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Two Rivers Crime Prevention Society in support of crime prevention programs in the Prince George area.

Sure hope they don’t taser anyone or shoot anyone in the back of the head (in self defense of course!) while they’re here.
What a colossal waste of taxpayer’s money! Disband the damn thing and spend some time preventing or solving some crimes!
axman, might i suggest that the promotional budget is something totally removed from the operational policing budget. this, like the snowbirds, is something that has been a unique Canadian identity from its beginning. what do you want to do, rip down everything that Candians can be proud of simply to satisfy a pissed off point of view on the job some police people do in the performance of their duties?
Holy crap, then what gives us our identity as Canadians? Some borrowed bears from China, or our flag, our symbols (beavers are good), our national sports and our proficiency at them, and so on…..
Thr last time I saw the “Ride” it was free.
Cheers
I like cops, but in fiscal sense, this makes none.
Why not use this money to add hospital beds? Everyone like waiting 3 hrs to see a dr at emerg? Or much worse waiting for your child to see a dr?
Oh axman. Your insightful and thoughful comments are what keeps Prince George from being thought of as a backward redneck town by the rest of our beautiful Province. Please, try not to be such a moron for your whole life. Read a book. Read a newspaper (NOT The Citizen of course) watch something other than Honey Boo Boo and Duck Dynasty on television. There is hope for you yet buddy
I had the privilege of seeing this in Regina many years ago. It is great family entertainment. As long as the tickets are affordable, my family will attend. I recommend others do the same!
You pay now as Mickey Mouse owns the rights.
Denaljo wrote…”You pay now as Mickey Mouse owns the rights.”
That is incorrect. Disney never owned the rights to RCMP products (which this Musical Ride is a part of). They hired Disney for five years from 1995-2000, to handle the marketing and licensing of RCMP products on behalf of the Mounted Police Foundation. Disney simply acted as an agent.
The Foundation has been handling all marketing and licensing ever since.
Agreed. A colossal waste of taxpayer money. In modern times, few of us are excited about RCMP traditions. Their traditions have caused so much harm, and they need to evolve into an organization more respectful of people and communities. Disband this waste of money. The Equestrian Division had its place in the past, but it has no place in today’s world. We love horses, love to watch them perform. But it is time to spend money in more productive ways, considering the state of policing in many Canadian communities.
Still Mickey Mouse – or is it Muckey Moose?
I hope to be in attendance, and I sure hope people like axman and the other rednecks don’t come and spoil it. Good thing it’s not free, makes for less incentive for riff raff idiots not to come. I also agree with one democrat, why can’t we just enjoy something traditional without spoiling it with bad mouthing?

I’d rather see my tax dollars spent on solving and or preventing crime. Seeing a bunch of bullies on horses is waste of money.
axman… can I assume then you have the same opinion of the CAF Snowbirds? A waste of tax dollars?
The musical ride is beautiful. But they should be using horse people at $40,000 a year instead of regular members at $80,000 who could be out chasing bad guys.
I have to agree that at a time when the federal government is cutting back millions and millions of dollars on the RCMP in the form of medical benefits and other things for the members it does seem strange that it would pour money into the musical ride. These decisions are made at the top by the good old boys club and they are more worried about the image rather than morale and benefits to the core membership.
Axman, clearly you have had a bad personal experience with the RCMP. The majority of us haven’t and would like to enjoy something of our heritage. Yes, funds could be allocated elsewhere, but in a world where there is so much financial inequality, this isn’t where the problem truly sits. Look up military spending and spending on aid that does nothing for the people of a country, and compared it to spending on literacy improvement in the majority of the world. Start arguing for things that actually matter, not just with your petty dislike of our long standing traditions.

Surgical type masks for the horses to diminish dust inhalation? Hope so.
