Federal Liberals Start Leadership Selection Process

Saturday, April 6, 2013 @ 3:40 AM
Prince George, BC – Starting today, members of the federal Liberal Party will start casting their ballots to chose their next leader.

The Party is trying something new as the voting will not be the round after round scenario that has been the norm in previous leadership conventions.   This time, voting will take place over a full week, starting after the event today in Toronto which has been title the "National Showcase".

There are six names on the ballot:  Martin Cauchon, Deborah Coyne, Martha Hall Findlay, Karen McCrimmon, Joyce Murray and Justin Trudeau.

Each candidate will have an opportunity to deliver their final speeches  today,   following a tribute to Bob Rae, who has been the interim leader of the party since Michael Ignatieff  resigned following  his defeat at the polls in 2011.

Advance voting is set to start following the final speeches.

The winner will be announced on Sunday April 14th.

So far I could vote for Justine Trudeau, but I also like Joyce Murray and her plans to not compete in riddings where they are not competitive. Until we have a transferable ballot system that ensures members of parliament are elected with a majority of their riding constituents that voted it makes no sense to allow any party member to get elected with as little as 30% of the vote.

So far it looks more like a beauty contest with all these different hair styles displayed during the debate. Can they vote for the best hair style for the leader too?

None of the above.

Methinks if Trudeau the junior gets in power the people of Canada can give him his own “junior debt clock” based on his dad’s economic history while in power.

Trudeau will not be good for the West.

If it wasn’t for his last name, we’d be saying ‘Justin who?’. He wouldn’t even be considered.

Me thinks that the debt in canadan was created by Mr Mullrooney. Canadas debt was under control when Trudeau left government.

Mulrooney doubled the debt. He also lied.

Hopeless, the lot of them.

retired, Trudeu started the debt spiral with Turner as finance minister. Mulrunoy certainly kept it up but after PET it became the norm to deficit finance.

It’s become the norm to deficit finance because unless the floating debts of the private sector, which are collectively unrepayable from a rate of profit that is falling in ratio to sales, are continually transformed into the unrepayable fixed debts of the public sector, the economy would collapse.

Doing this allows the private sector to continue to access bank credit, but the downside is that the public debt continually grows and becomes ever the more difficult to continue to service (i.e., pay the interest on it ~ even with interest rates at record low levels for governmental borrowings).

The only sensible answer to it is Social Credit, but we’d sooner pretend that the problem can be solved other ways in spite of increasingly overwhelming evidence that it can’t be. Not, that is, if we wish to preserve our individual freedoms within a responsible system of politics and economics.
