A Second UNBC Prof Named Academic of the Year

For the second straight year, a UNBC prof has been named “Academic of the Year” by the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC. CUFA presents the award to a faculty member who uses their research and scholarly work to benefit the general public.
Thanks to Dr. Kathy Lewis, the Canadian public (taxpayer) was spared a penalty of as much as $380 million dollars as she helped Canada win a case before the Softwood Lumber Agreement arbitration panel . Her testimony on pine beetle-infested wood was a major factor in Canada winning the case.
You may recall the 2012 winner was UNBC Doctor Chris Opio, who was recognized for his work in establishing sustainable clean water resources in Northern Uganda.
“I’m honoured and deeply grateful to be receiving this award from CUFA BC,” says Dr. Lewis, “I’d like to thank my colleagues for this distinction, both at CUPA BC and at UNBC. It’s a great honour to be recognized in the same way Dr. Opio was last year.”

Quite an honour, congratulations!
Congratulations Kathy Lewis! You make Prince George proud.
I have seen this intelligent, talented woman shovelling snow at the Ice Oval in the winter. Love that she has the brains to teach at UNBC and the fortitude to do the grunt work of a volunteer.
On behalf of this Canadian taxpayer, thank you Dr. Lewis, and congratulations on your obviously well-deserved award.
