Mackenzie, B.C- The College of New Caledonia’s campus in Mackenzie has a new entrance feature.

Carved posts, bearing an eagle and a bear, have been added to “enhance cultural representation and be a part of local community revitalization” says Tanya Helton, CNC Mackenzie’s regional director.

The Elders of the McLeod Lake Indian Band, recommended artist Ken Sheen be granted the job of creating the carvings of the two animals which have special significance to the McLeod Lake Band .

Helton says CNC also wanted to honour the Aboriginal heritage of the people of the area “We hope these carvings, along with ongoing projects, will make the campus more welcoming for all students.”

How much?

I noticed them last week. they are awesome works, and add beauty to our community no matter what the cost. Our Native Band around here do so much for the people of Mackenzie I think its awesome that the community revitalization people have done this what a great way to say Welcome and Thank you.. Good Job..

Very nice.

They look like they might reduce the exit width of the doors as they swing open.

Did students not feel welcome before ? Maybe this will make non-natives feel unwelcome, was any thought given to that.

They do look great though.. but is this the correct place to display them ?

Nice job.

Nice carvings makes the entrance more appealing.
