Prince George, B.C. – The Council of Forest Industries has given MLA and Cabinet Minister Pat Bell, a lasting farewell gift.
Bell, the MLA for Prince George-Mackenzie and Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, is not running in the election in May due to health concerns, but his name will be forever linked to training foresters of the future as COFI Chair, Nick Arkle has announced a special scholarship has been established in Bell’s name.
“When Pat was Minister of Forests, I remember going to a presentation and he delivered a power point that was incredible. Here I was, a forester, taking notes!”
Arkle praised Bell for his passion for the forest industry and dedication to the communities in which the forestry companies work.
For his part, Bell says he was caught totally off guard “I had no idea about the scholarship” says Bell, who adds “I am deeply, deeply honoured.”

A farewell gift…should have been a size twelve boot.
Bell is a beauty and he always looks out for the city of Prince George.
“A farewell gift…should have been a size twelve boot”
Have some respect. You’re the one who needs a boot.
In your opinion PGguy thank you.
Bell is an intelligent guy, and has been great for the region and BC. He will be missed.
PGguy1234………..ditto.
as for acrider54, have a nice day.
Departures from politics, are much like obituaries, there is seldom anything bad said about the sadly departed.
All these COFI types are diehard Liberals, and will say or do anything to keep their buddies in power.
Palopu, you always seem to have something to say about every single topic on this site. How on earth did you get to be such an expert on absolutely freaking everything?
I am so disappointed that a person of your obvious superior intellect is not running our city, or our province or dare I say our country!!
I can only imagine the clearly utopian society that we would enjoy, if only you would step up to the plate and take charge of all that is near and dear to all of us!!
Palopu for EMPORER!! I’ll cast the first ballot! Now all you need to do is put your name on the Ballot!
Palopu is an expert on everything. If you don’t believe it, just ask him.
I think you have it all wrong. Palopu will speak his mind and say what he truly believes… he can be counted on for that.
That said the blogger is not right about everything, which can be argued for sure, but what person is right about everything. That said one can argue that Palopu does not take the Socratic approach…. lol.
The problem with Hart Guy’s approach… even though he said it in jest. The problem is that we have a party based political system and not a riding based political system.
Who really thinks any of the acclaimed representatives appointed by the parties to represent PG would be doing anything other than following the party line as directed from the echelons of the party back rooms?
Elections BC requires only a couple of signatures for nomination from a party acclaimed candidate parachuted into a riding, but for an independent they require 75 nominations from electors.
If Hart Guy was a party insider and he wanted Palopu acclaimed because this would secure his policies, then yes he could do as he stated above… but not so being that it is unlikely Hart Guy is a party insider in the upper echelons of the party.
Its the party insiders that run the province and control all the gates to power. They themselves are unaccountable and can interchange politicians like seat covers. Its the parties that run the legislature and make a mockery of constituent up representation… its all party down leadership where the constituency representative is to represent the party to the constituency and not the constituency to the legislature.
You can be sure this election like others past will be about the power of party branding through attack ads and media and lawn signs ect ect, but will be very low on actual content voters can hold them to. It will be another election where educating voters is the furthest thing from the strategy of the parties, and voter turn out will yet again drop further as more and more will no longer simply mark a lesser of evils ballot… so as to give legitimacy to someone they don’t really believe will represent their interests anyways.
Time Will Tell
If it wasn’t for the continuing efforts of Minister Pat Bell, there would be a lot less people working in forestry jobs in BC today !!
The honour of a forestry scholarship in his name is well deserved, and I am very pleased that COFI established a legacy like this that will help us remember his continuing efforts to pull us through, no matter what the challenge we all faced.
Congratulations Pat — if you were running again — you’d get my vote any day !!
I agree with Palopu. The level of cronyism between the BC Liberals and COFI is sickening, at best, and that’s only what we SEE of what goes on.
