Northern Saw-whet owl at Cottonwood Island Park – photo 250News
Prince George, B.C. – Never mind the recent snowfall, the signs of Spring are all around.
Robins are abundant, and this past weekend, the 250News photographer spotted some great bird activity at Cottonwood Island Park.

Northern Saw-whet Owl: ( shown above) This little fella is just 8 inches in length and Prince George is along the northern edge of his breeding range. According to the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, the Northern Saw-whet owl can be found as far south as the west coast of Mexico but typically winters just south of the 49th parallel.
Varied Thrush: ( at right) A west coast bird, the Varied Thrush ranges from Alaska along the coast south to California. The breeding range (spring and summer) is pretty much B.C. north through the Yukon and into Alaska.
Black Capped Chickadee: This little guy is busy making a new nest. Not often you catch this kind of action, but this little bird seems to be doing some “spring cleaning”

And the Bald Eagles are busy too. This one seems to be bringing home some dinner, although we aren’t able to see who will be getting the “delivery”.

Beautiful pictures, of beautiful birds…and soon there should be leaves on them trees :)
Great pictures, but how did you get around all the dog poop?
Good question seamutt. On the other hand, how can there be dog poop when dogs are supposed to be on a leash, and owners are required to pick up after their dogs.
Is it possible that some citizens of Prince George (dog owners) actually allow their dogs to crap in a public park, and don’t pick up after them??
How does this tie in with the statement above about Prince George being such a wonderful place to live.
Love the wild life in Prince George.
I am a new resident of Prince George. I am from Southern Ontario. I have never seen these birds before. They are just breath taking. I can’t wait to see them in person.
Good pictures of beautiful birds.
