Former P.G.Conservation Officer Receives Award
Prince George, B.C.- A retired Conservation Officer, who spent many years in service in Prince George, has been awarded the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal.
Al Lay is well known to those in the hunting, trapping , fishing and outdoors circles in Prince George. It is here that he started his career although he would later transfer to Williams Lake as the problem wildlife control officer for the Cariboo –Chilcotin.
Lay is considered an international expert on human-wildlife conflict and was responsible for setting up the Provincial Predator Conflict Prevention program.
In 1998, he transferred to the Princeton field office as the district conservation officer where he served until his retirement in March of 2012 after 32 years of service.
The exemplary Service Medal is awarded to Peace officers who have completed 20 years of exemplary service.
