Wildfire Treatment Grant Sought

Tuesday, April 9, 2013 @ 3:50 AM
Prince George B.C.- The City of Prince George needs grant money to conduct wildfire treatment on a variety of areas, but Dan Adamson says while there is still a lot of forest within the community, the City is likely into the last year of it’s wildfire treatment.

The City is applying for a grant of up to $450 thousand dollars to cover fuel treatments for 2013.

Over the past two years alone, the City has treated nearly 132 hectares of forests in the City, including  a parcel of Crown land behind the Kin and CN Centres in 2012.
There are also plans for a pilot project called the Community Recognition Program for two neighbourhoods . This program helps residents make their properties more “wildfire safe” through helping them prune a stand of trees or move wood piles and fuel sources away from their residence.

Anothe idea to get tax dollars to waste on airy fairy ideas. Because Kelowna had a wild fire problem we are now screaming for assistance to combat wild fires. Kelowno has a much different climate then PG where it is hot and dry during summer months.
Cheers

I remember a fire that almost took out College Heights years back. If it was not for a wind shift as the fire was reaching the first houses it would have been a disaster.

How about a grant from some level of government to “conduct a taxpayer treatment study” in a variety of areas?

Years back is not today. There are no trees left in Colledge Heights.
cheers

What do you call those things off the end of Domino. That is were the fire was located advancing to College hts. I was there during the fire. College hts was evacuated. Cheers.
