Prince George, B.C. – Damage is estimated at $50,000 dollars in a fire that is being called suspicious in the 6100 block of Otway Rd early this morning. The fire broke out at an old mill site.
18 firefighters from three halls, were called out to fight the blaze at 3.30am. A fire was burning in the roof of an unused office building on the site. A second smaller building also caught fire.
Firefighting was hampered by limited access due to the snow load around the buildings. A city loader was called out to plow an access to the site, in order for fire trucks to bring water to the blaze.
The CN rail line was also shut down for a short period because fire lines were crossing the rail line. Once the plows had broken a trail at the old mill, fire crews were able to bring the fire under control.
No one was injured.

What are the rules and regulations in regards to closed industrial sites.
There should be road access for fire vehicles, and probably a security person on duty.
That’s what takes place at the old Pas Lumber site, and used to take place at the Rustad site.
Let it burn
How come this mill was left to rot into an eyesore after it shut down? Would not have anything to do with political connections would it?
The NDP was really good at throwing taxpayer dollars at obsolete and oudated mills in the past.
Too bad this one couldn’t wait until they take over again !!
Mills, ferries, yep they were certainly good at throwing taxpayers money out the window, that I remember too well.
Now I hear Dix doesn’t wanna play the debate show with Clark, he’s got nuth’in.
My short term memory is very good. Just recently the Lieberals threw bunches of taxpayers money out the window. 16 or so million for Liberals ads and another 11 mil for an Asian show in hopes this minority will vote the Libs.
Just wondering when Crispy is going to come out of hiding and release the Liberal platform?
Well, she is “walking the plank”.
I’m willing to bet it’ll be before Dix does, Oldun !! In fact, by the looks of it, I’LL BE SURPRISED IF Dix will be telling us ANYTHING of substance before the election !!
What do you suppose he’s hiding?
Must just have nothing to say I guess.
Quite the leader you’ve got there.
Dix doesn’t have to say anything. Christy and the Liberals are self destructing all by themselves.
Yup, obviously the platform, and why he’s afraid to debate with Ms. Clark — might have to take a stand on some policy or principal.
Dix doesn’t want to debate Clark because she never stops talking. She talks for an hour and says nothing. So whats to debate.
Both the Liberals and NDP, need a long rest in opposition, however I don’t see that happening, so we will be stuck with one or the other after the election,.
Only BC could have such a screwed up political situation. Damned if you do, and damned if you don’t.
Posted by a liberal supporter on the CBC site. “Political blogs is where many uninformed, less intelligent British Columbians have turned to for their political mis information”. I guess if you use a political blog and don’t like Christy you are uninformed and less intelligent. That could apply to many on this blog also. I guess a lot of British Columbians are happy in their ignorance.
Waddaya mean Oldun ??
The political savy of the average blogger on here is absolutely breathtaking !!
IYSS
You maybe dammed by a few if you vote Liberal, however, you will be totally skrewed if you vote in the NDP.
If you are on; welfare, a goverment employee, a union employee with lots of seniority , a retiree that does’nt care about the young people entering the work force around them …voting NDP may help you, but I seriously doubt it.
All political parties have issues, don’t let foolishness cloud your mind with voting against a party that has healthy business atmosphere and philosophy.
LUMBER1. Don’t confuse a healthy business atmosphere and philosophy with a incesteous relationship with business and corporations.
The Liberals are nothing more than pawns of business and corporations. The NDP are fronting for the Unions, Teachers, and Government workers.
The average BC Citizen is getting royally screwed no matter which party wins.
