Rotarians Gear Up For Fundraiser

Saturday, April 13, 2013 @ 5:11 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Winter is about done, the snow is receding rapidly and one of the annual rites of passage is about to get underway in Prince George. That’s right, it’s garage sale season.

Besides the private, homeowner sale, garage sales which benefit the community are also held with proceeds going to very worthwhile causes. One such event is coming up at the end of the month as the Nechako Rotary Club hosts its second annual garage sale April 27th and 28th in front of Studio 2880.

One of the organizers, Lisa Redpath, says the club is taking donations for the sale from 9am till 3pm today at the big shed behind Studio 2880. They are taking all types of items, from clothing to furniture to assorted household items….anything that is in reasonably good shape that you perhaps don’t want any longer but which may be just the ticket for someone else.

As was the case last year when upwards of 3-thousand-dollars was raised, the  proceeds from this sale will be going towards the Salvation Army mobile Crisis Response Unit. The Mobile Unit provides support for major accidents and emergencies and the first time is was put into use was during last year’s Lakeland Mills disaster. Redpath says “It was in the community just a few days prior to that happening and they had it out there. It’s an amazing vehicle, it has a full kitchen in it so you can do cooking. It’s well-utilized by the Salvation Army and it travels throughout the region as well.   So it’s these types of things we’re very proud to support.”
Now if you can’t make it out today to drop off your donations those items will be taken right up until the garage sale of the 27th/28th.   You can contact Ken Pendergast at 250-552-4770 or Lisa Redpath at 250-614-8231 anytime to arrange to drop your items off.
