Giscome, B.C. – It is a day some residents thought might never come. Today, MLA Shirley Bond brought along the paper work that once signed, would mark the start of the development of the new Giscome School.

The event was held in one of the portables which have been   classrooms for the students since their old school was first condemned, then demolished. The new project will see two modulars put on the site, and an activity centre built.

In all, the project will cost just under $3 million dollars with the Province picking up $2.4 million for the modular classroom portion, and the Regional District of Fraser Fort George putting in about half a million for the development of an activity centre to be part of the facility.

Those who have worked long and hard towards achieving today’s construction contract signing, say it is an emotional day for them. Denise MacDonald is one of the parents who took up the fight to make this project a reality she choked back tears as she talked about the fight to make this happen “It’s finally here, it’s been four years we have worked on it. There were times when I was really frustrated and wondered if it was worth going on, but there was always somebody there saying yes, it was worth it.”

One of the people given credit for making this project happen is MLA Shirley Bond. Speaker after speaker credited her for keeping the issue front and centre with the Ministry of Education. For her part, Bond says this project proves rural communities have a voice “This has been a very important personal project for me, I believe in the value of rural education and ensuring wherever possible, we have opportunities for children and their families close to home,. This is, I think, an optimistic note for other small communities.”

Regional District Director, Kevin Dunphy was near tears himself as he talked about how it was the Giscome School that first brought his family to the area. “it means a great future for our community, or whole area. It ( the school) was a cornerstone.” He says the   project shows the rural areas are getting some recognition “that our small communities and our small schools need tobe here, If not, . I think we need our rural communities, our farms and ranches and rural industries. This is a good example of where it needs to start.”

the new facility  will be ready for the 2013/2014 school year.

last good deed….c ya…

Oh contrar zyblxteu………..the majority of voters are not that myopic……..they can see a good person who does what she says she will do….

Of course this has nothing to do with telling people what you think they want to hear when you are desperate for votes, I suppose?
The odds of any government building new school in Giscome are slim to none…and I am sure those who live there know that.

It as good as done all the items are in place AndyFreeze. And good on the eastline as they been hauling out loads of tax money for years with out putting anything back. Just one of the new things you will see in the the next couple years. Thanks Shirley Bond you have my vote again 101%.

Sorry, Andy is right: this is a last gasp attempt to swing votes in her favour.
Look, I’m not saying that Shirley hasn’t served her constituents well over the past decade, hell I would send my clients to her office when they needed help as I saw her as person of action, someone who got things done, but that time has passed as it does for all politicians.

Wake up, folks, and smell the new brew – time to move on. Shirley isn’t the only MLA who can help her constituents.

Keep up sending incompetent people like Shirley Bond as MLA and then wonder why all the appointments made by her are as incompetent as herself and why so many scandals and corruptions in this small town.

You can find her in her office only 2 months before the election or for some ribbon cutting and even then she has no time for appointment.

Oh contrar zyblxteu………..the majority of voters are not that myopic……..they can see a good person who does what she says she will do….

Sure took her a long time to get it done. But yeah there is the election coming up no time like the present.
