Search On For New City Hall Executive CoOrdinator

Thursday, April 18, 2013 @ 3:59 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George is now actively looking for a person who is qualified to become the “Executive Coordinator” for the Mayor and the City Manager.

This is a position that has become vacant with the departure of the Mayor’s Executive Assistant, Beverley Smith. You may recall, that job opening was not posted and at the time, Mayor Green said posting the job “was not required” because it was an “exempt” position, meaning it is not a unionized position.

The new Executive Coordinator job is also an “exempt” position so it begs the question about why this one is being posted when the previous post was not?

The job description calls for someone who has “a general knowledge of the Local Government Act, Community Charter, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act” and suggests this person will be responsible for the Mayor’s and City Manager’s schedules, making travel arrangements, reviewing Council agendas and “keeping abreast of emerging public issues and community affairs.”

While the previous “Executive Assistant” to the Mayor was , as Mayor Green said at the time, “available to the City Manager”, this new position has the successful candidate reporting to both the City Manager and the Mayor and will be “ providing assistance to the Mayor and Council, City Manager and other Senior Staff.”

The   assistance to Council is also a switch as last year, Mayor Green told 250News that Executive Assistants really didn’t have much to do with Council “Council in the past  traditionally, and certainly in my time  on Council,  other than arranging for travel or conference work  don’t have any real  work that they give to the assistants so it’s not so much working with Council, they’re kind of on their own." Not so anymore, according to the new job description.

The successful candidate can expect a salary of somewhere between $54 and $64 thousand a year, plus benefits.

Resumes have to be submitted by May 1st. You can click here for details.

If it didn’t involve working directly with Green I’d be all over that

Reports to Mayor and City Manager. Sounds like a double agent. I hope the Mayor and new City Manager will have the same objective and vision this time.

$64,000 is not enough money being a double agent. Going to bed at night and never knowing if you will have a job in the morning should this person be honest.

Good job for Marshall Smith.

That’s a lot of money for that job. No wonder we’re broke.

I hope all of the people that complain incessantly about over paid government staff have thier resumes polished up – Here is your big chance!

Seeing as how Chief Green doesn’t much care for Opinion 250 will this new manager read from Opinion 250 every morning over coffee before the start of each workday to find out how some people feel about her policies?

Couldn’t pay me enough to work with her :P

I’m not understanding how joining the ranks of the overpaid and underworked snivel service is going to stop us from going bankrupt.

“…accuracy, efficiency, diplomacy and confidentiality…highly developed interpersonal skills…a proven
ability to communicate effectively…an ability to use tact, professional judgment,
initiative and courtesy….”

A candidate having these high values and skills may decide to wait and run for a mayor’s job during the next municipal election!

Just a thought, of course!

Sounds like a position for someone who’s ex Navy, experienced in damage control and has a security clearance to handle classified information. They must be able to read at least 3 days ahead to prevent there wards from triggering a major disaster or at least public outrage. Yup no one qualified here for that posting, no mention of kevlar dress wear included in the wage package. (just kidding about the kevlar)

“The job description calls for someone who has “a general knowledge of … Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act”…

There goes Skakun’s chances.

There you go again JB. Skakun can not apply. You don’t need to be smart to post but it helps.

Hey 57chevy, it’s called ‘having a sense of humour’, which you apparently don’t have. Do you always take everything so literally?
