Prince George, B.C. – It could be noon  before the all clear is given  at the T.D. Bank in downtown Prince George.

Dozens of businessess  in the 4th and Victoria area  were evacuated after a bomb threat was called in this morning.

RCMP Media Liaison Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass says  while  the recent events in Boston  were tragic,  the evacuation  and  cordoning off of the area in downtoown Prince George this morning is not a  heightened response "This is normal protocol when  this kind of threat is received.  Our primary concern is always the  safety of the public and  we  have  evacuated dozens of businesses in a  one block area surrounding the  targeted building."

That one block  area covers Victoria between 5th and 3rd Avenues and  Brunswick to Vancouver.

A bomb sniffing dog was to be brought into the area  over this hour.  "It will take some time to clear the buidling as it is not a small building" says Corporal Douglass.  He expects it could be noon before the area is clear and people would be allowed to return.

Further updates will be  posted  as they become available.

I was down there and what a massive inconvenience for everyone. Chances are it’s a hoax, and if the guy/gal is caught, they’ll likely get some kind of stern warning etc. Meanwhile how much money was lost by businesses who did nothing to deserve this. Maybe if caught, the courts should consider bomb threats as a serious crime that actually does time so that next time someone is unhappy with their bank fees, they think twice before being an a**hole. And this isn’t harmless. While the RCMP were tied up dealing with this mess, they weren’t investigating crime, they weren’t patrolling the highways, they weren’t doing what they are here to do – thanks wingnut.

I’m pretty sure a bomb threat is considered a serious crime.

Gee, so it is. Would you rather it is business as usual? Sorry, but safety is more important than whatever was on your personal agenda this morning. This is why we have these measures in place. Rest assured this incident will be investigated. The RCMP are doing their job.

It should be a major crime. If it turns out to be a hoax this time, then they might not take it as seriously next time.

In this day and age I would think pretty stupid though to do this kind of prank. I’m sure most all cell phones and internet messages can be tracked. It wouldn’t be hard to find out who did this.

Where do you read that I’m criticizing the police action. I’m talking about the idiot who did this, and how if caught, will get a slap on the wrist – which is wrong – considering how many people he/she inconvenienced. A bomb threat is a serious crime, so is robbing a gas station, and yet, arrested one day, released on “conditions” the next day, and give parole a year later. Meanwhile several hundred people lost time at work – business, income.

Wonder if the construction project across the street has come to a standstill ? It must indestructible at $36 million I would think !

Interesting point Boon. It did. The RCMP blocked off access at Vancouver St. So I bet all those workers put down their tools and went for a walk. So someone is out of pocket for that.

I just want change. I the former AG twice. I like to talk to her about life on the street here.

Calling in a bomb threat is a serious offense whether it is a hoax or real it is treated as a real threat in the courts…..
