Prince George, B.C.- Members of the community have been invited to a special, sombre event that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday evening.
Tuesday will mark one year since an explosion and fire ripped through the Lakeland Mill, killing two workers, injuring many others.
Since that blast, the Sinclar Group has announced it will rebuild the mill, with hopes of having it up and running in the summer of 2014.
"We are very aware of the impacts and sacrifices employees and their families have suffered because of this tragedy" says Sinclar Group spokesperson, Cam McAlpine, "The evening will be focusing on recognizing those hardships, those sacrifices, but also to say thank you. We want to say thank you not just to the first responders, but to the entire community. We know we couldn’t have come through all of this if it weren’t for the support of the community."
Members of the community donated thousands of dollars and as of the end of October last year, all of the funds had been distributed to those who were deemed to be in need of assistance.
Tuesday, residents, workers and their families, are invited to a commemorative event at the Prince George Civic Centre. It is slated to start at 6:30 p.m, with doors opening at 6:00.
