Day 7 – Environmental Focus of Campaign Today
Monday, April 22, 2013 @ 10:20 AM
Prince George, B.C.- Matters of the environment seem to be the item of the day on the BC election campaign trail today.
The B.C. Conservatives say they would pull the plug on the Clean Energy Vehicles program which includes a $5,000 subsidy off the purchase price of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
The New Democrats say they would dissolve the Pacific Carbon Trust and place its measurement and monitoring functions in the Climate Action Secretariat. The levies paid by hospitals, crown corporations and post-secondary schools, would be directed back to those public sector institutions to fund energy-efficiency upgrades. Plus, the NDP government would oppose the Northern Gateway Pipeline and maintain a moratorium on offshore oil exploration, drilling and tankers on the North Coast.
The Liberals are calling for the New Democrats to outline fully their party’s environmental policies and point to comments attributed to NDP energy critic John Horgan that suggest the NDP would drop the Site C development, ignore limits on ghg emissions in natural gas operations, and oppose the Kinder Morgan pipeline.

Liberals are already acting like a government in opposition….. calling on the NDP to explain their position on Site C etc….they should be telling us what their plans are on BC’s environment. IMHO the BC Libs have proven with their 5 point condition/ ultimatum on the proposed Endbridge Pipeline that they have no plans to protect or preserve beautiful, pristine BC today or in the future.
If we could only ban tanker traffic off the east coast…as the song says, “What a Wonderful World”.
Conservatives making more sense every day.
