Young Driver In Grave Condition After Crash

Thursday, April 25, 2013 @ 3:41 PM
Prince George, BC – A Prince George man is in grave condition after the small car  he was driving crashed on Highway 16 east, just east of the Upper Fraser turn off, on the long curve.  He was ejected from the vehicle, suggesting he was not wearing a seatbelt .
RCMP investigtors believe  speed was a  factor,  but at this time  it is not  known if there were other contributing factors.
The highway is expected to be closed  until 6:00 while police examine the scene.   It is possible the highway will be  re-opened to single lane alternating traffic at that time.
DriveBC is expected to  have an update at 5 p.m.

Hope he makes it.

Hopefully he pulls through . Sadly the investigation will likely show either speed or cell phone use and lack of seatbelt or a combination .

Yes I hope he makes it, but why are the RCMP always closing highways when traffic can be safely guided through and why does it take six to seven cop cars to block the highway off? Yes I know they have to investigate but there is room to move around the incident.

I really don’t understand people who don’t wear seatbelts. It’s so automatic for me, I put it on even to move my truck a few distance in the driveway. I would surely have died years ago if I had not been wearing a seatbelt.

acrider54@My guess is that they want to make sure they can detect skid marks and the like on the other part of the road and that they want to wait until the accident analysis specialist is there to do it

Thanks bill, I’ve been wearing a seatbelt since 1971 when I bought my first muscle car, it’s been a habit ever since no matter how short the drive.

It is autonomic for me to put my seatbelt on. Even if I am just moving my car to a different parking spot in my driveway I reach back and pull it on. I can’t imagine not wearing it.

I use to never wear my seat belt until I bought a newer model truck. I just can’t stand that beeping noise it makes, so I got use to wearing the seat belt. Now its just habit.

In my youth in highschool years I was in two roll overs one without the seat belt on and one with the seat belt on. Both saved my life.

Without the seat belt on I was t-boned by a car crossing the highway that put me into a roll over that crushed the roof and would have killed me if the seat belt was on. I lost my hood, tailgate, 3 tires, and the motor, but I walked away alive because I could fit under the dash.

With the seat belt on I was a passenger in a truck driving to fast, and having never wore a seat belt before I put it on mere seconds before he lost control (I just knew it would happen), and we rolled about ten times missing a corner. The seat belt was the only thing that kept me in the vehicle. I walked away from that one alive as well, but I still have glass and rocks under my skin from it.

A roll over can happen in a split second through no fault of the driver and IMO its a gamble either way. With modern air bags and roll cages having a seat belt on makes sense.

What really sells me on the seat belt most nowadays is the fact if it holds you in your seat, you can better control what the vehicle is going to do. That is often overlooked.
