Worst Roads Survey Underway Again

Prince George, B.C.- Once again, the BCAA has launched it’s survey aimed at finding the worst road in the Province of BC.
Prince George has scored high in the two previous surveys. Ospika Boulevard was ranked the worst road in the province in 2011. Last year Domano Boulevard came in at #2, Tabor was ranked #3, Massey Drive was #6 and 15th Avenue was ranked #7. All of those roads have since been repaired in whole or in part, so it will be interesting to see which, if any Prince George roads make the top ten this year.
The BCAA says potholes and poor road conditions are safety issues and that’s why they are holding the Worst Roads survey.
From now, until May 27th, you are invited to nominate a road you think is most in need of repair or redesign by voting online at bcaa.com/worstroads.
“Roads that are deteriorating, inadequately maintained or poorly designed affect the pocketbook, stress level and more importantly— personal safety of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians,” says Ken Cousin, BCAA’s associate vice president of Road Assist. “We encourage British Columbians to take five minutes to vote and draw attention to deteriorating, unsafe or inefficient roads in their community. And, we will continue to share our results with decision makers to help them plan for current and future road improvements.”
Once final survey results are verified, BCAA will publish the top 10 list and share the results with government to encourage improvements.

BCR site by Kal will get my vote
Vote early and vote often folks, we can’t be in second place again! Seems that the only way to get mayor and council to act is to let the whole province know our roads are #2, a big pile of #2:)
Lansdowne Rd. and Stuart Dr. adjacent to Rainbow Park get my vote for starters.
Kennedy Crescent and Hoover drive
Coming down Foothills after the bridge to 15th ain’t no picnic.
Ditto on Rainbow Drive.
The worst road in P.G. I voted for the last time (Croft Road) was in 4th place this morning! It may make it into first place because it is now even worse than a couple of years ago! Third world countries have better roads than that!
Anyone that drives down Pacific Street in the BCR Site by Kal Tire would likely vote that the worst maintained road in the country much less the province. Its a disgrace to PG to allow a road to get that bad.
On the flip side and in all fairness the Willow North Road out the BCR site is probably the best road in the city. Problem is it might see 6 vehicles a day travel it.
The city I think spent like $10 million dollars putting in 4km of infrastructure like city water and sewer and they put light standards down the full length of the road and the pavement is flawless. The city said at the time build it and they will come and this new road would bring industry to town with new land available to locate with all the infrastructure in place.
Problem is no new business has developed in the area in the last ten years and the road is like something out of a ghost town. A huge allocations of city funds… likely to be no different than the new Boundary Road idea to make adjacent landowners wealthy with infrastructure.
The Willow with a half dozen cars a day (people that get lost), has water and sewer… when neighborhoods in the city have paid city taxes for 30-years without getting the same service… and rubbing insult to injury they got full city light service out there when we don’t even have that on main roads like the Hart Highway that sees 10,000 times as much vehicle traffic.
The big news about the big spend on the Willow North is with the new tipping fees at the land fill… the turn around at the street dead end is becoming a high class dump location for ‘friends of city council’. This city really knows how to allocate their funding for their friends. A nice paved and lighted road that nobody uses to a quiet dump location. Only in PG would we see this level of city planning with homeowner property tax dollars.
Eagleone: you can add Penn Rd., Rock Island and Milwaukee Way to Boundary there.
Eagleone. I have gone on a few occasions to look in awe at the money wasted on the Willow North Road.
I suspect that your right about Boundry. I don’t expect anything of any consequence to happen there for many many years.
Then of course we have the Airport Boondoggle after spending $36 Million dollars we have nothing to show for it.
Throw in the recent $7 Million upgrade to River road, including lights, etc; for a few trucks and you get a pretty good idea where your money is going.
It’s so hard to choose from 80% of the roads in this city are crap. I’ll pick 22nd Ave for starters, then Chief Lake Rd from the Hart to Foothills, then Foothills to Austin, then Foothills from the bridge to 1st Ave, then……….
Ditto on pacific in the BCR…Not only is it inconvenient but a huge safety issue as well when you factor in the four way stop and rail crossing. People are getting backed up into the rail crossing because traffic is drastically slowed as a result of the potholes.
