Prince George, B.C. – Five people were taken to hospital in Prince George as a precautionary measure following a structure fire on a frontage road off the bypass this morning.
Prince George Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Drew Larson says four trucks from three halls responded to the fire at the Carriage Lane Estates in the 2000 block Central. Upon arrival they found smoke pouring out of Unit 11 at the rear of the building. Larson says crews knocked down the fire, which appears to have started in the kitchen, quite quickly. He says besides that one suite flames also extended into the cedar siding shakes on the side of the unit near where the electrical lines enter the building.
Assistant Chief Larson says the one unit is heavily damaged and there was some smoke damage to one, possibly two other suites. He says “we put what we call positive pressurization on those two units to keep the smoke limited to the one fire unit to try to isolate them from further damage.”
Larson says there were five people, three adults and two teens, in the suite. “They were cooking food this morning and it’s reported by them that there was a fire on the stove. The lady hollered to the rest of the people to get out and everybody was evacuated safely. They were taken to University Hospital of Northern BC to be assessed for possible light smoke inhalation. But they do not seem to be in any distress at this time.”
The damage to the fire suite is heavy, in fact the unit looks gutted. Larson says “It was a very hot fire. I have no idea what they were cooking.” The investigation of the blaze is just getting underway, with some fire crews remaining on scene to make sure, with the use of thermal imaging cameras, that there are not hot spots and the fire doesn’t flare up again.
All of the units of the building had been evacuated by the time fire crews arrived on scene this morning.

Looks like the crew was very effective in stopping the fire from spreading. Well done. It can be a challenge in those older buildings.
