Prince George, B.C.- A fire that gutted a unit of the Carriage Lane Estates on  east Central  this morning, is believed to have caused $100,000 in damage.

Assistant Fire Chief Drew Larson says the cause  of the fire was accidental, due to “unattended cooking”.

Four trucks from three halls responded to the fire just before 8 this morning.

Five people were in the suite and all were able to get out safely.  They were taken to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. for evaluation and minor smoke inhalation.

Neighbouring units were evacuated as a precaution.

No firefighters were injured.

While the unit where the fire started sustained extensive damage, there was minor smoke and water damage to one other unit, and minor smoke damage to another two units.

And these folks very likely have absolutely no renter’s insurance. And who can afford to start from scratch at the best of times! Good luck to all concerned; thank heaven no one got hurt seriously.

Frying bacon, a real risk reward proposition.

Bacon is worth the risk.

I am not sure why someone would call a fire due to “unattended cooking” accidental.

In my opinion that is sort of like calling a vehicle crash due to texting accidental.

Both are very avoidable.

Was it someone deep frying a turkey too close the walls indoors? Be careful.
