Prince George, B.C.- There will be no shortage of purple at Immaculate Conception school in Prince George this morning.
Purple was the favourite colour of Alexa Middelaer, who was just 4 ½ years old when she was killed by an impaired driver in 2008. Alexa and her aunt were at the side of a road, looking at a horse, when they were struck.
The tragedy lead to the creation of Alexa’s Team, a project that recognizes the efforts of law enforcement to remove impaired drivers from the roadways.
The annual event involves children of the age Alexa would be today had she survived. This year the event will involve children in grade 4, who will present Alexa’s Team ball caps to the new, and renewed team members.
Alexa’s Team members have taken more than 41 thousand impaired drivers off the roads in B.C.

Through a family connection, I have heard that Alexa’s parents are incredibly strong, good, intelligent people and I am proud that PG gets to be part of their journey as they deal with the unnecessary death of their beautiful little girl.
