Highway to Open One Lane Soon

Prince George, B.C.- North District RCMP expect to reopn highway 97 North to single lane alternating traffic soon.
The Highway was closed about 10 kms north of Salmon Valley as Police investigasted a fatal crash.
A male driver, the lone occupant of a pick up truck died at the scene when his southbound pick up truck left the highway and crashed into a tree around 3 this afternoon.
Investigators say speed was likely a factor, and although the driver was not ejected from the vehicle, it would appear he was not wearing a seatbelt. It is not yet clear on what other factors may have played a role in this crash.

My husband and Grandson and I arrived at the accident scene not long after it happened. We waited there for just over 2 hours before the highway was opened to single lane alternating traffic. This was at about 5:30 pm. It was heartbreaking to see this horrible accident scene and to know that a life was lost. To know that some family was going to recieve the worst news imaginable today made me sick to my stomach. We saw the scene from both directions as we had to go to Mackenzie and back. The investigators were still on scene at 9 pm and we could see where this fellow first hit the soft shoulder, and it also looks like he tried really hard to regain control. My heart breaks for his family. Please everyone slow down and stay safe.

We are the family of Ray. He is my ex-husband and father to our beloved son Jordan. He is boyfriend to a lovely friend of mine named Char, who sent me this link and was waiting for him to visit, but he was so so late! He was a dear friend to many, and left behind 3 children and loving parents. And he was truly my dear friend. Thank you for your kindest of words and know that they meant the world to me when I read them this morning. I can only be comforted to know that there was a compassionate lady right there already grieving Ray, before we even knew, and I thank you for that.
