Road Rehab Projects Just Around the Corner

Tuesday, May 7, 2013 @ 4:00 AM
Prince George, B.C.- In just a couple of weeks, the major capital road rehabilitation program will be in full swing in Prince George.

Starting next week, some smaller projects will get underway, in an effort for the asphalt plants to make sure everything is up and running smoothly.   The big projects are expected to roll out starting May 27th.

This year, the City is spending more money than ever on road rehabilitation ( $5.18 million) and when all is said and done this year, some 36 lane kilometres of road will have been rehabilitated.

The road rehab starts just one day before the BCAA wraps up its annual worst road survey in B.C.
A stretch of Ospika Boulevard made top rank as the worst road in the province in the first survey. In year two, Domano Boulevard came in at #2, Tabor was ranked #3, Massey Drive was #6 and 15th Avenue was ranked #7.

So, we wanted to know if you thought the condition of roads in Prince George has improved over the past two years.

According to our unscientific poll, 19.2% (1393) said yes the condition has improved, while 80.8% (5852) said no it had not.

The Danson Industrial Site says a lot about the priorities of the PG City Council.

A huge portion of the essential free enterprise infrastructure (roads) needed for the existing economy to move forward left to crumble completely.

Surely anyone looking to invest in a plant or warehouse in PG takes a drive out to the Danson Industrial Site and gets the message clearly that PG does not invest its tax dollars to sustain the most basic essential infrastructure. Who would want to become part of a tax base that already can’t maintain the infrastructure with the current taxation levels?

the tax chart today says in the fine print at the bottom does not include school taxes.
They just could not put it all in there.
So add another 25% to that total.
Reminds me of the no charge diesel add.lol

The condition of certain roads has improved but the problem is the years and years of lack of action on roads has almost got to a point of no return. You need a huge capital project to say on top of it. At this point they are just trading one road for another.. Maybe the new paving project announced will reverse the current problem (maybe)..

So actual road rehabilitation? or just more dumping a shovel full of asphalt in the hole and patting it down with same shovel?

The road that takes you to The Otway Ski Club is TERRIBLE. I imagine the club will be used a lot for the winter games, I wonder if the road will be fixed before then?
As for improvement? I think lack of proper maintenance would get my “NO” vote for this unscientific poll!

36 lane kms of paving? Does that mean if the road is 4 lanes wide we would only pave 9 kms? Keep trying to spin what a good job you are doing with road rehab and some might believe it. It’s called the “Crispy Method”
