Liberal Newcomer Ready To Get To Work

With Shirley Bond at his side, and his family behind him, Mike Morris, speaks to supporters at the PG Liberals’ post-election celebration

Prince George, BC – Mike Morris is okay with his ‘trial by fire’ introduction to BC politics…

The retired RCMP Superintendent stepped out of the local Liberal party’s backroom to run in the riding of Prince George-Mackenzie, after Minister of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training, Pat Bell, announced he would not be seeking re-election due to health concerns. (Photo at right shows Morris and his wife, Chris, arriving at Liberal gathering at Coast Inn of the North)

In his first run, Morris captured 9,330 votes to NDP candidate, Bobby Deepak’s, 5,865 votes – or 55-percent of voter support for the riding.  In 2009, Bell won his third term with 56-percent of the vote, garnering 9,816 votes to his next nearest competitor’s 6,452 votes.

Speaking to reporters last night, Morris admitted his naïveté may have helped him navigate what was a challenging first kick at the can.  "I’m naïve to a whole lot of things that happen in the political world," he said.  "I came in solely focused on doing the best job that I can in the campaign and, now that I’m in, doing the best job that I can as an MLA."

The political neophyte said he thinks the Liberal’s Jobs Plan really resonated with voters.  "Everybody wants to make sure that the future holds good economic opportunities for everybody and that’s what we’re working hard to accomplish in BC."

"I think this Liberal Government can get there."

This only proves that the people of British Columbia have NOT forgotten the mess that this province was in when it was an NDP government!

The people have spoken and spoken very loudly.

Congratulations to Shirley, one of the hardest working MLA’s.

Congratulations to Mike. He may be a newbie but he is a very smart and ethical guy.

Have a great day, everyone.

BC Racer……you are simply a….
SORE LOSER !!!!!!!

Way to Go Mike Morris….

BCRacer,

your only screwed if you hoped for a raise in your welfare cheque by the NDP. The MAJORITY of us are happy.

BCRacer should take a cue from the mindset of the BCLiberals.

They should have thought, and some did, they were screwed now. But they weren’t. They kept on fighting instead of giving up.

Learn how to fight and hold on to what you know is right for the province in your heart. Christy had that mindset and, in the end, she had the best Party machine in the province to help her out. The BCLiberals do not need pollsters. They have their own system to help them fine tune the strategy as time progresses.

Against a lot of opposition, including all our local MLAs during her leadership race, she managed to emerge the victor, and eventually caused most of the hardliners to depart because they did not believe in her and thus saw no cabinet positions in the future.

Those who switched their mindset to working with her after the Party members had made their choice helped win the day. Luckily for us, Shirley and Pat were amongst those. I think Mike will learn how to join that local team as well as take up Christy’s mindset.

Christy has a lot to teach us to be a better province. She now has the team that can help her do that. She is to be admired for her abilities.

Next steps for her? To fight for the province on the national scene and give the rest of the country a run for their money.

The only next step for Christy is to try and earn a seat in the Province of BC. Perhaps your party would be best of finding a leader the people actually elected?

daisybee. So we all voted for the candidate in our riding ,not for the party . Interesting.

Congratulations to Mike Morris. He is certainly the most capable. Now he needs to go and earn the trust that voters have put in him. Just because the Liberals won, does not mean they will get away with some of the stunts they pulled before.

It’s funny how mouthy all the “Fiberal” haters were on here during the campaign when they were drinking the poll koolaid and slapping each other on the back. I think it’s hilarious that only 2 of them seem to be on here continuing the hate.

I wonder if Christy is gonna Bump Morris and run a by election in PG Mackenzie for a seat in the Leg.

after all PG vale and PG mac are “Safe ridings” … Vale has the expiriance and “expertise” of a long time cab minister. Morris is a newbie .. a greenhorn etc…
It would make sense to me … Offer him some Chief of staff job or alike in Vic for the 98 gr/year that is base rate of an MLA.

at the end of the day however I think the majority of voters that turned out … Voted to keep Dix out of office rather than to keep Clark in, amazing what an effective Fear and smear campaign can do to the average lemming.

@ BCRacer

We’re screwed now? Care to elaborate?
