IIO Produces Chart on Status of Investigations

Prince George, B.C. – The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has now produced a chart on it its website, which details the status of it’s investigations of incidents involving Police in B.C. which resulted in serious injury.
The chart (shown above) was produced on May 6th. The chart is meant to keep interested members of the public as up to date as possible on the cases under investigation and those that have been completed.
As is shown on the chart, the grey bars refer to cases which are completed, the blue bars track the number of days since the incident, while the black lines represent the percentage of tasks completed.
There are some tasks that may be left to complete following the conclusion of the case, however, the IIO says those tasks could are administrative in nature and cannot be done until after the Chief Civilian director has rendered a decision. Such tasks could include a Coroner’s inquest or return of evidence. That would explain why the Greg Matters case, ( at the bottom of the chart) is indicated as complete even though there are tasks remaining.

It is too bad that an incidents descrioption is not identified on the chart. Perhaps that info is on another chart. I cannot readily find such a list on the IIO site.
Of 20 cases, I count 8 outside the GVRD region. I wonder if that is an abnormality or if that disproportion from metro urban to more rural areas of the province will remain that way.
If so, does anyone have an explanation?
