It’s Time To Get Camping

Prince George, BC – If you have yet to pull the trailer out of your driveway this morning, take note: Purden Provincial Park is full for this holiday weekend…
The warm weather earlier this month melted the last signs of winter, and gave the park contractor confidence to open the park up to reservations for the first time this year. Don Stephen says half the park was reserveable prior to the long weekend and those reservations were snapped up. He says people started bringing their trailers out mid-week to secure the other spots.
Stephen says Beaumont, Paarens Beach, and Sowchea Bay Provincial Parks to the west of Prince George are all open and ready to go this weekend. Sowchea Bay has five spots left.
To the north, Carp Lake remains closed due to snow. "There’s a little bit of snow left at Crooked River (Bear Lake) on some of the back roads, but we’re hoping it will melt away (this morning)," says Stephen. "And the sites are totally bare."
Approximately 10 of the lakeside campsites at Whiskers Point are closed due to flooding, but the rest of the campground is open.
"It’s been so nice (weather-wise), we expect a good weekend at all the parks." He adds with a laugh that the mosquitoes have yet to come out at some parks, so some may find it the most enjoyable weekend to camp.
