Prince George, B.C. – A delegation from Wuyi University in Jiangmen, China has signed Memorandums of Understanding with the University of Northern B.C. and the Barkerville Heritage Trust.

The agreement between the universities is designed to promote international cooperation in education and research and covers several areas of information, staff and student exchanges.   UNBC President Dr. George Iwama says “we have exchange agreements with universities across the globe. This agreement is unique because it was initiated as a result of the City’s vision to develop a sister city relationship with Jiangmen.”

Most of the early Chinese immigrants who worked at mines and built Canada’s national railway came from the Jiangmen region. The partnership with the Barkerville Heritage Trust, which manages the Barkerville Historic Townsite, is meanto to strengthen long-time relations and build closer ties between cultures.
