Police Story That’s All Warm and Fuzzy

Thursday, June 6, 2013 @ 4:43 PM
Alexis Creek, B.C.- It wasn’t  your typical round up by the RCMP, but 7 young offenders found themselves in the back of the RCMP vehicle, bound for rehabilitation.

We’re talking puppies here, not people. (at right, 7 pups line up against the tail gate,  paws where  you can see them!  photo-courtesy RCMP)

Stray dogs are an issue in the Alexis Creek area and a recent litter caught the attention of animal lover  Cst. Krista Mangan.  She has been a member of the RCMP for nearly a dozen years, and has been in Alexis Creek since August of last year.

So when she heard of a litter of 7 pups, she was determined to find a home for each and every one of them.  “As part of working with Alexis Creek First Nations as their RCMP liaison, I sit on the Safety Committee board. That committee is an integral part of identifying and solving many safety issues that arise. Stray dogs are one of the hot topics, and several solutions are being proposed at this time. I have a soft spot for animals, and knew that I would be able to find homes for them easily,” says Cst. Mangan.
So far, so good, 6 of the pups have been placed, and Cst. Mangan  is confident the seventh will be just as lucky.

Meantime, the RCMP along with the local SPCA continue to provide information to the community about spaying and neutering their domestic cats and dogs. The local SPCA recently provided the region with an educational presentation at the community’s annual general meeting in hopes of managing the stray population.
