Prince George, B.C. – The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation will be receiving a $20 thousand dollar donation from RBC today.
The money is one half of the amount pledged for new IMPAX systems which allow physicians to access radiology images. Right now there is just one IMPAX system in the emergency department, the full $40 thousand dollar donation will allow for the installation of two more. One will be located in the trauma bay and the other will be located within a new rapid access unit in the Emergency Department. This will enhance response times and enable the viewing of x-rays in key locations throughout the department.
The money will also be used for renovations of the Emergency Department to create a special decontamination area.
The hospital’s region contains a strong industrial sector which increases the risk of exposure to harmful chemicals. Through training, staff will be educated on how to recognize the immediate risks, what to do once identified and then how to safely treat the patient.
For patients who have been contaminated, two shower stalls with privacy curtains will be installed along with a hose bib with tepid water to decontaminate patients. There will also be cabinets and storage lockers to accommodate decontamination supplies and Level C personal protective suits.
Today’s donation brings RBC’s donation total to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation over the years to $180 thousand dollars.
